British Irish submarine tunnel plan discussed
A proposed submarine tunnel between Ireland and Scotland could span about 20 miles and run roughly 1 000 feet below sea level in midchannel. Estimated costs start at 40 million dollars with traffic unlikely to cover expenses, and the Scottish mouth would lie in a sparsely populated area 80 miles from the nearest major center. Even a very low rate to attract traffic might not cover interest on the capital.
