Dr Samuel Marsh Martin dies by own action in Indiana

Special to the Indianapolis Journal Greenfield Indiana June 14 Dr Samuel Marsh Martin fifty five prominent eastern Indiana physician committed death by own action at his home. Found hanging in barn at 6 30 pm no note. He had been in good spirits at noon. Health and finances suspected. Union veteran pension examining board Grand Army of the Republic family: wife two sons two daughters. Funeral expected Wednesday afternoon.

Farm Garden and Orchard Meeting at Newsom's Hall

The Carthage Agricultural and Horticultural Society met at Newsom's Hall on June 12. T. T. Newby presented on securing a succession of vegetables of the same kind while Lizzie Hill Williams read from The Barn. Attendees discussed practical gardening topics and displaying vegetables flowers and cherries. a future meeting will be announced.

Senate debates Hawaii annexation and Japanese warning

The Hawaii annexation treaty and a message from President McKinley reached the Senate on Wednesday. The islands lie about 6,740 miles from the mainland. The administration fully understands Japan's stance toward the islands and intends this as a warning for Japan to keep hands off.
