Miss Flick Crowned Versailles Pumpkin Show Queen

Miss Margaret Flick of Holton High School, niece of Fred Flick of Carthage, was named queen at the Versailles Pumpkin Show on Saturday. She earned trips to Washington and New York for exhibiting one of the six best dresses in the State 4-H Review at the State Fair and for being the top 4‑H clothing judge, though she gave that trip to her alternate.

Fire Destroys Pike Barn in Garage Fire

A late Wednesday night blaze at Cecil Pike’s home destroyed the barn and a garage containing a Pontiac. A passer-by spotted the fire around 11 pm and local volunteers responded quickly. The house was saved, but tools and hay were lost. the Pike car in the garage was destroyed but insured. Buildings carried no insurance.

Carthage High announces half hour school schedule shift

Beginning Monday October 3 Carthage School will set back its schedule by thirty minutes with doors opening at 8:25 and classes starting 8:40, dismissal at 3:55. Seniors met September 28 to pick Commencement invitations and plan senior pictures at Henley Studio Knightstown for Friday September 30.

Tenth Annual Carthage Festival Opens Plans Progress

Carthage prepares for the tenth annual festival to support the Community Center with a week of events. The smorgasbord dinner on September 29 features church sponsors and ticket plans, while a Talent Show on September 30, a euchre party, school band concert, and a parade on Saturday drive contributions and entertainment.
