Pfc George Roland arrived home from Germany for a visit with relatives and friends. He will report to Camp Campbell Kentucky on October 20 after the visit.
Mrs. Reuben Davis entered Rush Memorial hospital and underwent surgery Friday. Mrs. Marie Tribby underwent surgery at Rush Memorial hospital Friday.
Mr and Mrs John Wagner and Mrs Gertrude Jessup attended the funeral services Monday morning for the infant of Mr and Mrs John Floyd at the Wyatt-Moore Memorial in Rushville.
Mesdames Maxine Carson Joyce Rhoades Evelyn Siler and daughters and Della Pearson attended a bridal shower Friday night at the Charlottesville Methodist church for Mrs. Robert Addison.
Mrs. Max Ellis of Knightstown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ruby, was admitted to Rush Memorial Hospital Monday afternoon and underwent an appendectomy Tuesday morning at eight o'clock.
Miss Margaret Flick of Holton High School, niece of Fred Flick of Carthage, was named queen at the Versailles Pumpkin Show on Saturday. She earned trips to Washington and New York for exhibiting one of the six best dresses in the State 4-H Review at the State Fair and for being the top 4‑H clothing judge, though she gave that trip to her alternate.
Rally Day set for October 2 1955 at 9 30 a m with guests Rev and Mrs Richard Mack of Elwood in charge of music. Everyone invited who lacks a church home to boost attendance and welcome visitors.
Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Plank of Anchorage Alaska welcomed a daughter Kimberly born Saturday September 17 weighing 7 pounds 7 ounces. Mrs. Plank formerly Miss Gloria Magee is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maine Magee.
Rev. Eugene C. Sommer motored to Geneva Friday evening to officiate the wedding of Miss Lillian Sommer and Kenneth Pemberton. Mr and Mrs Chris Sommer accompanied the officiant and attended the reception at the Cozy Corner Restaurant in Geneva.
Mr and Mrs Lloyd Smith of Caracas Venezuela were Saturday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Harold Ruby and their son David. Mr Smith is superintendent of the mill where Mr Ruby spent some time.

Effective October 4 1955 the state driver examiner will be at the local Auto Branch on Tuesday morning from 8 am to 1130 am instead of the Wednesday afternoon schedule. Mrs Anice Bly branch mgr.
A late Wednesday night blaze at Cecil Pike’s home destroyed the barn and a garage containing a Pontiac. A passer-by spotted the fire around 11 pm and local volunteers responded quickly. The house was saved, but tools and hay were lost. the Pike car in the garage was destroyed but insured. Buildings carried no insurance.
Mr and Mrs Jesse Henley travel to Rushville to stay with Mrs Nora Mc Fatridge at 1127 N Perkins St due to illness in their daughter Eleanor Robinson's family. They welcome friends and inquiries during their stay.
Rev Rex Krieg of Wesleyan church spoke to Carthage Lions Club last Monday on honesty outlining points of interest for members. Business centered on Festival committees and weekend plans. Ladies Night set for Oct 10. Mrs Elmer Hunt improving from illness. Mr Hunt also slowly recovering.
The Rush County 4 H Junior Leader Club met at the Farm Bureau Store Monday evening. Robert Lee Smith presided as president. Officers elected for the coming year include Lynn Gardner as president Neal Kuhn vice president Sharon King secretary Wanda Earnest news reporter Mary Jane Meek and Rush Terhune song leaders Carol Ewing and Philip Hester recreation leaders Madeline Bonnie and Philip Dyer health and safety leader Joe Moster. Mary Kay Morgan spoke on life at the girls State Fair School. Robert L. Smith reported on Boys Camp. Brenda Warrick on girls exhibit earnings with James Meyers and Neal Kuhn on boys exhibit winnings. Susan Stevens on State Fair activities. Duane Newhouse led recreation. Next meeting is Oct 8 with Shelby County as guests.
Mrs Ina Rhodes, who underwent surgery at the Methodist Hospital last week, is slowing improving and is expected to be home soon.
Mrs Opal Moore hosted the Past President's Club of the Home Economists for a Monday dinner with eight members present. The business session occurred in the afternoon followed by a social hour to end the pleasant meeting.
Beginning Monday October 3 Carthage School will set back its schedule by thirty minutes with doors opening at 8:25 and classes starting 8:40, dismissal at 3:55. Seniors met September 28 to pick Commencement invitations and plan senior pictures at Henley Studio Knightstown for Friday September 30.
Carthage prepares for the tenth annual festival to support the Community Center with a week of events. The smorgasbord dinner on September 29 features church sponsors and ticket plans, while a Talent Show on September 30, a euchre party, school band concert, and a parade on Saturday drive contributions and entertainment. Juries for October court term announced accompany parade and dance plans with queen contest details and donation opportunities.
Carthage Blue Raiders opened their conquest of the county base ball title with an 8-4 victory over Milroy on Wednesday. They are undefeated against the five county schools and host Arlington Friday in a second clash. Finals set for Tuesday October 4.
Skyline Drive-In Theatre will operate weekends only from October 2 1955 onward. Advertisement of upcoming attractions appears on page 2.
Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Conaway of Carthage R. R. 1 and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Reisner of New Palestine wrap up a two week western tour. They visited Kansas Missouri Colorado Utah Idaho and Ohio with relatives including Coleman Harcourt and Robert Heck ending their journey in California Arizona New Mexico.
