Lilburn White entered Hancock County hospital in Greenfield on Friday evening with pneumonia and remains in about the same condition. Mrs Luther Hull learned their son David, in Westover hospital Massachusetts, was slowly improving from a recent illness.
Fletcher Methodist Church invites everyone to Rally Day next Sunday and hopes for good attendance. The message welcomes those without a church home to join the congregation.
The first quarterly meeting will be held at the Wesleyan Methodist church this coming Saturday evening and Sunday. The business session occurs Saturday night and communion services are planned for Sunday. Everyone is invited to attend.
Rush Lodge No 580 F and AM will confer the BA degree next Friday night October 14 at the lodge hall.
The State Bank of Carthage was the successful bidder on the $10,000 Town of Carthage bond issue for a new fire house. Its bid included a $15 premium at 2 percent interest. Two other firms also bid on the issue.
The Parent Teachers Association holds its regular meeting next Tuesday night October 11 at 7 30 p m at the Community Center. The topic is the Purpose of the P T A.
Graveside rites were held Wednesday morning for Anna Marie Shanahan infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Gerald Shanahan of 914 North Perkins Rushville. Mr Shanahan is a Prudential Life Insurance representative for the Carthage district.
Golden Dawn Farms of Ripley township exhibited the Champion Angus bull at the Indiana Aberdeen-Angus Show and Sale held Tuesday at the Indiana State Fair Grounds. The event drew 40 head in the Show and Sale.
Postmaster Joseph E. Porter will depart Saturday morning for Detroit Michigan to attend the National Convention of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States. He will be accompanied by Wayne Crider Greenfield postmaster John Hupp New Castle postmaster and Robert Wisehart Shirley postmaster for the six day meeting.
The American Orchid Society Show will be held next weekend at the Marott Hotel in Indianapolis. Public viewing runs Saturday 6 to 10 p m and Sunday October 9 from 10 a m to 5 p m with no admission charge. Mrs William F Beck of Carthage serves on the staging committee.
A son Kimber Joe born October 3 at Rush Memorial hospital. Mr Dye rejoined the army and is stationed at Ft Leonard Wood. Kimber Joe is grandson of Mr and Mrs David Dewitt Sr and Mr and Mrs Russell Dye. Also born September 20 a daughter Sharon Kay to Mr and Mrs Clovis Dewitt, granddaughter of Mr and Mrs David Dewitt Sr.
Vonnie Church was admitted to Hancock County hospital in Greenfield last week and underwent major surgery on Wednesday. He is improving slowly and is listed in room 120.
The driver examiner will now appear at the local Auto License branch on Wednesdays at 12 30 p m instead of Tuesdays as previously announced. Mrs Anice Bly branch manager.
The upper seven grades of the school watch the World Series on television installed through Hubert Hunt. A schedule lets all students view part of each game while keeping up with studies, with one hour in class and one hour of viewing each afternoon.

Carthage High School bands its marching season with state fair wins totaling 45 dollars and a fall parade plus a half hour concert. They prep for the Tech Indianapolis marching contest on Oct. 22 and a Butler Centennial homecoming parade on Oct. 29, while winter focuses on basketball games.
Ertle Price of Posey township was re elected as president of the Rush County Agricultural Association for the coming year at the annual meeting in the county extension office Tuesday night Oct 4. Other officers, all re elected, include John R. White Ripley Township vice president E E Privett Rushville Township secretary and Gail Abernathy Washington Township treasurer. Eight new directors were added to the Fair Board Hayden King Howard Kennedy Ralph Miller Everett Stanley Max Branum Robert White Albert Hill Melvin Gray. Ertle Price presided at the meeting. Several bills pertaining to the recent fair were allowed.
The Bureau of Motor Vehicles will produce and mail two million 1956 registration applications for auto plates. Commissioner Morris J. Carter warns many returns come from owners who did not notify address changes. Owners who moved since 1955 should send a postcard with 1954 big plate number, name, and both old and new addresses to the Bureau in Indianapolis.
The festival featured a large parade with many entries judged across divisions. Garden Club won best organization, 4-H clubs took second, Kappa Kappa Sigma placed third, and Lions Club fourth. Queens in floats crowned Freshmen first and Seniors second. Sherry McKain’s Cat and Canary won best pet. Patricia Sipes, Arlene Ruby, and Trina Kay Clayton led in best decorated bicycle. Proceeds support the Tweedy Community Center. The event, though delayed by rain, boosted community spirit in Carthage.
Residents attended a three day festival featuring a grand parade with four high school bands Arlington Wilkinson Charlottes ville and Carthage. Miss Annis Jean McDaniel was crowned queen and the Rhythmaires played the festival dance. Activities included contests food booths and a cake walk with proceeds aiding local clubs.
Jack Hinshaw and Russell Shutt Jr joined the paratroopers last week and departed Thursday for Fort Leonard Wood Missouri.
Mr and Mrs Russell Siler and their family have moved to the former Fred McManus property at Carthage R D 2 owned by Roy Reddick confirming the transfer of residence and occupancy details.
A Christian Education Service will be held Friday evening at Carthage Friends Church with a carry-in supper at 6 30 p m. Thomas E. Jones president of Earlham College will deliver an important message. Arrangements are by Mrs Lee Patton Christian Education Committee chair. Open to the public community members encouraged to attend.
The Salt Lake City Tribune notes the Chapman Civics Club will begin its 30th year serving women with adult classes in sewing art and rug making. Mrs W F Core a former Carthage resident chairs the committee aiding Americanization in homes of foreign born, using the Chapman Branch Library as meeting site.
Walter O. Nelson longtime Ripley township farmer died at his home southwest of Carthage at 9 p m Tuesday after a heart attack. Born December 13 1900 in Posey township he married Esther Kennedy June 10 1928. Survived by widow mother and brother. Funeral 10 30 a m Friday at Thompson Funeral Home Carthage burial East Hill Cemetery Arlington.
