Carthage Band Boosters Meet Tuesday Evening

The Carthage Band Boosters will meet at 7 30 p m on Tuesday October 3 in the School building. Also reported are newborns Douglas Jay son of Norman and Marie McCorkle Greenfield and Kathleen Sue daughter of Richard and Mary Myers Morristown with grandparents listed in Carthage and Greenfield.

New Minister Gene E. Lewis Joins Carthage Friends

Gene E. Lewis arrives in Carthage as interim minister of Carthage Friends Meeting after a prior stint in Spice Land Indiana. He was born and educated in North Carolina and has held pastorates in North Carolina Ohio and Indiana. Mrs. Lewis hails from Dayton Ohio. The couple have one child, Jim, and live in Indianapolis where Mr. Lewis teaches at Woodview Junior High School.

Rush County Christian Missionary Society Held October Meeting

Rushville Indiana hosts the Rush County Christian Missionary Society annual meeting at Main St Christian Church on October 4 with 10 a.m. registration and a noon covered dish luncheon. Edith Hull and Louise Reddick host the Christian Women's Fellowship on October 5 in the church basement with Mrs. Donald Drake and Mrs. Virgil Dolan reporting on the quadrennial gathering of 3500 attendees.

Manuel family attends major league games in Cin cinnati and Detroit

Mr and Mrs Lloyd Manuel and their sons attended the Cincinnati San Francisco game in Cincinnati on Sunday. The previous Sunday Phil Lip and Tommy Manuel also accompanied their parents to Detroit for the Yankees Detroit game. Their names were omitted from the paper.

Rush County Rural Youth Club meeting at Farm Bureau Building

The Rush County Rural Youth Club convened with president Paul Lessing presiding. Howard Crussel led mixers, Linda Miller led the pledge and devotion, and guests Russell Nigh and his wife from Carthage gave a chalk drawing lesson on The Meaning of Calvary.

Rites Held For Ell Stephens

Joshua Ell Stephens aged 74 died at his Carthage home after a sudden illness. Born March 15 1887 in Lewis County Kentucky, he worked at Container Corporation of America Carthage and retired. Survived by widow Lola Fannin 1913 marriage, three daughters, three sons, one brother, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral Thursday 2 p.m. at Hampton Mortuary Carthage. Albert Murfin 68 Dies. Charlottesville Resident

Albert Murfin of Charlottesville died at home Tuesday afternoon last week at age 68. Born September 26, 1892 in Indiana, he was a retired farmer who farmed near Wilkinson and Charlottesville. Survived by Hazel his widow, a daughter Mary Mattix of Charlottesville, three sons Thomas Indianapolis Arthur Winchester and Robert Sumter S C, ten grandchildren eight great grandchildren, a sister Cora Fedder Manistee Michigan and a brother Elmer Perkinsville.

Carthage festival and safety plea headline

Citizens urge safer bicycle riding and traffic rules in Carthage as the fall festival unfolds with bands, contests, parades and a public auction raising funds for the center. The event features Charlottesville and Wilkinson bands, festival queen Miss Deanna Carroll, and multiple activities across Thursday through Saturday.

Judy Hearne slept over with Peggy Addison. Omer Heim and family joined Mr and Mrs Robert Wolfe and son Joe in Hammond Illinois over the weekend. Joe Wolfe performed at the USO event for Air Force Base service members on Saturday night.
