Mrs. Laura Beason came home Wednesday from Rush Memorial Hospital and remains weak. Pastor Louis Barrett and family moved to the Walnut Ridge Friends church parsonage on North East Street, vacating by Mr. and Mrs. Billy Mann and son.
Melvin McCorkle arrived in the States from Germany and has received his discharge from the army. He came to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur McCorkle, early this week.
Mr and Mrs Fred Magee welcomed a son weighing 9 pounds 4 ounces named William Frederick born Saturday at Rush Memorial Hospital. Mr and Mrs Norman McCorkle welcomed a daughter Deborah Kay weighing 7 pounds 10 ounces born Sunday at Rush Memorial Hospital.
The Carthage Fall Festival hosts a talent show Friday night at 8 p.m. The Carthage band performs from 7 30 p.m. before the show. Tickets are on sale at Leadbetter Pharmacy.
Pvt Raymond Henderson of Fort Bliss Texas spent a ten day furlough with his parents Mr and Mrs Louis Henderson and their relatives. Their other son Pvt Robert Henderson will receive his discharge and be at home around October 7.
Mr and Mrs C McCarty arrived home Thursday from Mackinaw City Michigan where they spent several weeks Mrs W B Coleman who had stayed in their home during the absence returned to her apartment in Rushville
The Lions Club held its regular meeting last Monday night with President Clyde Ruby presiding. During the business session Fall Festival plans were discussed and formulated. Hubert Hunt presented a colored film of New York City and refreshments were served.
Larry Morris son of Mr and Mrs Charles Morris traveled to Minneapolis Minnesota last Wednesday to enroll as a freshman at the University of Minnesota He will study veterinary science and returned to Carthage with his parents on Saturday
The East Street Christian church named its 1956 57 Sunday school officers led by Supt Leonard Jackson First asst supt James Ellis and 2nd asst supt Forrest Marshall with Wanda Leisure as secretary Marilyn Jackson asst secretary Parvel Moore as treasurer Carmen Walters as pianist and Martha Trowbridge as song leader Also listed are asst officers James Ellis Jr Kelly Veach Gary Clayton Mary Eleanor Bush and David Ruby.
Neal Kuhn, an 18 year old Rush County 4 H member from Manila, will exhibit purebred Holsteins at the 4th annual International Dairy Show in Chicago October 6 13 at the International Amphitheatre. Kuhn’s animals won 1st 2nd and 4th in the Indiana State Fair Junior show. The event features six breeds with judging October 8 12. Fourteen performances of the International Golden Spurs World Championship Rodeo run October 5 14.
American Legion Auxiliary calls for cake donations for the Fall Festival cake walk. Citizens are urged to contribute a cake to support the event.
Senator Homer E. Capehart spoke to a Rushville crowd at the courthouse assembly room detailing a farm research drive described as a permanent solution to farm problems. He urged a crash effort akin to wartime synthetic rubber with a $100 million federal appropriation to fund a coil of new uses for farm products and a push to raise output and prices on an emergency basis. The plan projects 11 new uses including drugs, paper from starch, and biofuels, while noting current production at 6.5 billion bushels and proposing expansion to 2.5 billion extra bushels annually if fully developed. Capehart said the measure would require next session reintroduction with House support led by Rep. Ralph Harvey.
The Carthage Ministerial Association met at Rev. Basil Stultz's home for a carry-in fellowship. Plans were made for Union Thanksgiving Day Services at the Carthage Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Louis Barrett. Special night services were set to begin Oct. 21 at the Christian church from 8:45 to 9:30 p.m., to be held monthly at community churches after full organization.

Mrs. Grant Henley arrived home Wednesday from Rush Memorial Hospital and appears improved. Mr. Henley remains about the same.
Town reports burglary at Tommie's Service Station operated by Jim Ellis after midnight last Thursday. Robbers used keys from a soda machine to steal cash and the cash drawer, totaling roughly $10 to $20 in silver. Rear of Earl Gribbons barber shop was broken. entry failed. Carthage high school drops 7 to 6 to New Salem in the Rush County tournament opener. Watkins leads Carthage with two hits while New Salem plates five runs in the fourth inning aided by three hits and four walks. Batteries Carthage Little Magee McClurg New Salem Baugh Craft Davidson.
Milroy Cardinals overcome winless start to beat Arlington 7-6 as they tally two runs in each of the first third and fifth innings. In a separate game, Carthage tops Mays 8-7 after a late-inning rally, with Wilkes homering for Mays and McClurg driving in three runs.

Carthage High School finished third in a Morristown cross country meet won by the host team with 31 points. Charlottesville placed second with 46 points, New Palestine scored 87. Carthage scorers included Phil Parish 3rd and Kirby Overman 6th.
