The Beat reports Henry Stinger pauses his acclaimed window display after two weeks of public attention and vast community effort. He suggests a harvest themed exhibit of farming tools and crops to honor the season, while continuing to plan future community pieces and updates from local soldiers overseas.
At a Tuesday night Board meeting the Community Center elected officers for one year. President is Mrs Emma DeSchip per, Vice President Henry Sting er, Secretary Mrs Ben Neal, and Roy Small continues as Treasurer and Chairman of the Board. Mrs Grant Henley remains treasurer? The Methodist church hosts a Sunday September 238 gathering at 7 o clock expected to be the largest Scout meet in Carthage with Boy Scouts Cub Scouts Girl Scouts and parents. Music and badge ceremonies follow with Eisenhower badges for all local Cubs and investiture and court of honor events for several scouts. A moving picture and slide show will cap the program and the public is invited.
Reverend Murray S Kenworthy, former Carthage Friends pastor, toured Carthage last Tuesday during a two day Board of Missions session. He now serves as Executive Secretary of the Indiana yearly meeting of Friends, guiding about a hundred churches. His wife accompanies him. their three grown sons hold notable posts: Carroll with United Press Washington staff, Wilmer with Pennsylvania State College, and Leonard recovering at Yale University hospital.
Indiana State Police Colonel Austin R. Killian called for registration of all firearm types held as souvenirs by overseas veterans for protection and crime prevention. He warned dealers that failing to promptly report firearm sales could lead to license revocation and emphasized lawful sale requirements amid concerns about war memorabilia entering criminal hands.

Noble R. Shaw, director of the Indiana Employment Security Division, explains that high school and college students attending classes are ineligible for unemployment compensation. W B Ward Purdue extension horticulturist tells Rush county extension office that commercial garden seed will be plentiful in 1946. Home gardeners may save seed, but producing high grade seed is a job for commercial seedmen. Workers must guard against disease and cross pollination and aim for purity and high germination. home gardeners should not rely on home seed.
Two Purdue University programs for Indiana farmers in September include the Annual Soils and Crops Day on September 20 and Swine Day on September 21. The events aim to draw hundreds of farmers to learn new research developments for the state's agricultural production program.
G A Williams of Purdue University extension dairy warns that seeding a few acres of rye after Sudan grass pastures provides a productive fall and early spring grazing. This can cut winter feed needs by two to four weeks, saving hay per cow. The Ralbo rye variety is growing in popularity for its palatability and rapid growth.
A training school to qualify testers for a contester position will run September 24 to 28 at Purdue University. Indiana sets 1945 pheasant season from November 10 to 17. Acting director Donald R. Hughes announced the dates after a spot check by William Barnes indicated a likely small rise in the pheasant crop. Daily bag limit is two cock birds and possession limit four.
The 27th annual Indiana Farm Bureau convention will be held November 15 to 17 at the Murat Temple in Indianapolis. President Hassil E. Schenck announced plans for a large gathering with representation from all 92 counties. Official delegates will convene on November 17 to adopt resolutions elect officers and conduct key business.
Colonel Austin R. Killian announced that a limited number of trooper positions are open. Selected applicants will attend a training school at Purdue University in February. Request application forms from the training and personnel division, Room 126, State House, Indianapolis.
Mrs. Bayard Baker of Hobart Indiana reports a message that her cousin Pfc Ernest Earhart has been liberated and is well. Earhart enlisted in 1941, served across in October and was reported missing after May 6 during the fall of Corregidor. He endured three years as a prisoner at a Japanese camp via Red Cross assistance.
Vene Plummer shows improvement at the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis. Mrs John F Leisure is improved from a recent illness. Mrs Sam O McCarty shows very little improvement.

Bud Smith opened a cleaning and pressing business in Carthage last Monday, the first in over a year. Located north of Marshal King's residence, the shop will offer cleaning, pressing and mending with plans to add tailoring and dry goods. Mrs. Smith, a Carthage schoolteacher, is connected with the venture.
