Promoted to PFC gets honor award. Jack A. Smith, private in the U S Marines at San Diego training station, was named Honor Man of his platoon and graduated August 20, 1959. His platoon had 58 men. He received a certificate and a promotion to private first class.

The Carthage Lions Club began the 1959-1960 season at the Community Center. President Lewis Lafuse led the pledge and invocation, 35 members and guests enjoyed a chicken dinner, and plans for the Fall Festival were outlined including Lions Den food and a Lions Float.
