Mr and Mrs David Hull and their children moved last week from R 1 Carthage to a new three bedroom ranch style home at Greenfield R 1 located west of Walnut Ridge Church on the range line road.
Mr and Mrs Sam Nigh of Carthage stayed Friday through Sunday visiting brother Clancy Nigh and Mrs Nigh in Allegan Michigan The Nighs said the fishing was very good
Mr and Mrs Bill Alexander attended a noon luncheon at the home of Mrs Inez Murnan in Fountaintown Indiana on Sunday The event gathered state officers and district presidents of the Indiana Chapter of the National Association of Postmasters of the US Alexander serves as president of the 10th district.
Carthage group announces a Brotherhood and Sisterhood meeting on Monday evening September 20 at the Community Center.
Ralph Truitt remains about the same at Rush Memorial Hospital in room 228. Grace Gurley is in the same condition at Rush Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Minnie Ridlen was admitted to Hancock County Hospital in Greenfield last week convalescing from a stroke. Mrs. Callie Heim remains about the same at her home on R 2 after long illness. Mrs. Myrtle Henley remains about the same at her Carthage home.
The 115th annual Garden Clubs of Indiana Southeast District meeting was held at Glenwood Methodist Church with ten Carthage members attending and twenty eight district clubs represented. Mrs Forrest Moore opened the meeting and state president Mrs Murray McKee of Columbus attended among distinguished guests.
The Queen Contest Committee of Carthage invites girls to join the 1965 Fall Festival Queen competition. Tickets are on sale at Windsor's Drugstore with general admission only. First practice is Tuesday September 21 at 6 30 p m sharp with contestants drawing numbers and receiving instructions. Entry blanks must be turned in by September 18 to 20.
Mrs. Anne H. Phelps of Carthage aged 97 died at 5 40 p m Thursday at Rushville Nursing Home She was the oldest resident of Carthage and Rush County born September 18 1867 near Carthage daughter of Enos B and Ruth Winslow Hill Married Oliver Phelps September 18 1890 he died in 1895 Surviving are two daughters Ruth Anne McClarnon Mabel Hedgecock two grandchildren Ralph McClarnon Anna M Gardner and two grandsons Dean Gardner Indianapolis and J B Gardner at home Funeral at Hampton Mortuary 2 00 p m Sunday Rev Frank Guy of Dublin Burial Riverside Cemetery Friends may call after 1 00 p m Saturday.
Carthage wins a three team meet at Arlington with 33 points while Manilla scores 42 and Arlington records 46. Joe Smith of Manilla wins the race in 11 minutes 41 seconds with multiple top ten finishers from Carthage Manila and Arlington across the list.
Carthage rode a five hit fifth inning to score four runs and beat New Salem 6 5 on Friday afternoon. Hedrick hit a bases loaded triple for New Salem but Carthage pitcher Lafuse and Edwards held on for the win.
Carthage High School returns to action after a Tuesday open date in the Rush County Baseball League with a 3-0 record. They play Mays on Friday and close the fall slate next week at Morton and Arlington. A trip follows completion on September 28.

The regular meeting of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority is set for Tuesday September 21 at 8 p.m. at the Community Center with Mrs. Frank Hampton and Mrs. James Ellis as hostesses.
Mr and Mrs Maurice Lukens and daughter Candi spent a weekend with their daughter and family Dr and Mrs Vingil McKee and children in Akron Ohio. Mr and Mrs Lukens were greeted by relatives and enjoyed a family gathering during the stay.

Ripley Township officers include Roy O. Stanley and Wayne R. Clark with Donald E. Ruby among regulars. Center Township lists James R. Finney as chairman Philip Reece as vice chairman Don Addison as regular. Posey Township shows Everett W. Hester chairman Leland Van Osdel vice chairman Otto Walke regular member Walter L. Swain.

The Old Fashioned Airs Quartet will perform at Carthage Fletcher Methodist Church on Sunday evening September 26 at 7 30. The group includes Harry Martin and Marian, Bob and Rowena Banks, with Judy Martin on piano and Debby Martin as vocalist. The quartet, from New Palestine Indiana, recently earned a national Oscar for Best New Quartet and is active in Midwest concerts since 1961 on WFBM TV's Today In Indiana.
The Carthage Lions Club started its new year with a dinner meeting at the Community Center last Monday. The group approved sponsoring a candidate in the Fall Festival Queen Contest and a float in the parade, discussed the walnut project with 800 bushels orders, and voted to buy glasses for a local girl and donate to the Bush County United Fund. Indiana District Governor will visit October 11. 100% attendance pins awarded to six members. James Ellis won the attendance drawing. Rev. Stanley Palicki presented a Palm Sunday tornado film and Sgt. Schwendenmann spoke on highway safety and youth risks.
A Sunday cooperative dinner was hosted at the home of Mr and Mrs Frank Bever of R 2 with twenty six family members present. Carthage graduates and locals enter several colleges nationwide this fall. Karen Siler begins Pasadena City College in California. Richard Marshall starts Purdue University science sophomore year. Linda Harrold and Peggy Addison go to Purdue and Ball State respectively as freshmen or sophomores, with multiple Carthage residents enrolling in Ball State, Purdue, Butler, Asbury, Manchester, and Wisconsin institutions.
Dinner guests Saturday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs Hubert Hunt and daughter Miss Pam Hunt included Mr and Mrs Allan Atkinson of Clarendon Hills Illinois and their daughter Miss Lynn Atkinson along with Miss Marty Klein and Miss Patty Duneson all of Butler University and classmates of Miss Hunt.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Parish hosted a birthday dinner Sunday for the September birthdays of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Parish. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Parish and their children of Zionsville.
