Pony cart accident injures man and pony dies

Charles Elmore was admitted to Rush Memorial Hospital after a pony go cart crash on North Main Street on Wednesday evening. He was later released from the hospital. The pony died as a result of the accident.

Minister Honored At Farewell Party In Carthage

Fifty one members and guests of the Little Blue River Church of Christ held a farewell picnic for Foy Siles of Greenfield the minister at the Little Blue River Church near Carthage. The event at 4 30 p m was at the James Wright home on R R 2 Carthage. The Jr High Sunday School Class taught an original skit and song for entertainment. Mr and Mrs Siles and family plan to move to McMinnville Tennessee.

MrsRaymond Kennedy Miss Judy Kennedy and MrsLena Newsom attended the funeral of Amy Rearson at Diggs Funeral Home in Marion Monday morning. In the afternoon they visited Donald Bradford and children in Marion and called on Mr and Mrs Raymond Thompson and their son Mark in Kokomo.

Local School Opens With 448 Pupils In Carthage District

Carthage leads county enrollment with 448 pupils from kindergarten through high school an increase of 19 from last year Arlington is second largest with 299 Manilla 284 Moscow 117 Mays 251 high school totals 383 Carthage High School 123 enrollments by grade levels list pupils for Carthage Manilla Mays Arlington and Moscow plus CHS and feeder classes including a complete freshmen and kindergarten rosters.

Summer Band Program Summary Highlights Attendance and Awards

The High School reports 56 students in the Summer Band Program with 32 rehearsals and an average 50 attendance. Twenty earned perfect attendance. several lists name members across bands A B and C with various absences. The group won a 3rd place trophy and $75 at the Muncie Delaware Co Fair Band Tournament, placed 8th for $25 at the State Fair Farmers Day Parade, and 46th among 92 at the State Fair Band Marching Contest. Carthage B and C bands held multiple rehearsals and lessons with dozens of absences and perfect-attendance students.

Rites Held For Rose Overman in Carthage

Mrs. Rose Ann Price Overman 87 of Carthage died 10 15 p m Monday at Conover Nursing Home Morristown where she resided two weeks. Born November 30 1877 in Spencer she married Frank Overman November 11 1897. Survived by husband three daughters a son ten grandchildren seven great grandchildren two brothers five sisters and many nephews and nieces. Funeral conducted by Rev Stanley Palicki at Hampton Mortuary Carthage with burial in Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs Pearle E Bishop former Urbana resident dies

Mrs Pearle E Bishop 89 of 822 Miami St Urbana Ohio died at 5 20 pm Sunday at Hoover Nursing Home Urbana born Dunreith Indiana June 24 1876 She was a charter member of the Urbana Church of the Nazarene Survivors include two daughters Elizabeth Epley Kathryn Wyant one son Claude R Bishop six grandchildren two great grandchildren Her husband B S Bishop died in 1949 She was preceded in death by a daughter Esther McInturff in 1962 and a son Richard R Bishop in 1963 Funeral services were held at 2 pm Wednesday in the Urbana Church of the Nazarene with Rev Lester Meyer pastor officiating Burial was in Oak Dale Cemetery Urbana Ohio.

Pitts Joins Eli Lilly as Internal Auditor

William B. Pitts has joined Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis as an internal auditing department auditor. A native of Indianapolis, he graduated from Carthage High School in 1953, earned a Ball State University later, and a 1960 BS in accounting from Indiana University. He was formerly a senior accountant at Roy J. Pile and Company in Indianapolis and is a member of the Indiana CPA Society. He and his wife and children reside at 7718 Crest Hill Drive, Indianapolis, with his parents living in Carthage.

Blazing Star’s Visit to Carthage Remembered in Local Lore

The article recalls Blazing Star Ke-kio-Kah a Cheyenne Indian who visited Carthage in 1888 or 1889. He lived humbly traveled by lectures hunted fished and mingled with residents forming friendships. He died at 32 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery with a simple grave marker.
