News reaches Carthage of the death of Mrs. P. W. Tweedy at her Seattle home on Tuesday. She was aunt to Ross Tweedy and Maude Barbour of Carthage. Funeral services are Friday at Green Lake Mortuary in Seattle. Survivors include husband four daughters and one son. The deceased and her husband lived in Carthage several years ago.

Walter T. Small, 68, died of a heart attack at 7:45 am Friday at his Center Township farm while working on a ditch north of Center Christian Church. He had been ill eight years and was a member of Center Church and local Masonic and Odd Fellows lodges. Services were at 2 pm Monday at Center Church, Rev. Myron Taylor officiating, with burial in Glencove r Cemetery, Knightstown. Surviving are his widow Nora, three sons Robert Merrill and Thurman, a sister Florence Hoffman, and a brother Floyd, all of Knightstown or nearby areas.

Wilkinson Band Tops Farmers Day Parade Honors
The Wilkinson high school band won top honors at the Farmers Day Parade and band contest before about 10 000 spectators at the State Fair Grandstand. Hancock County's 35 musicians plus twirlers and a drum major performed Strike Up The Band and Back Home Again In Indiana. First prize was 100 dollars for the band fund. The Buck Creek 4 H Club float took second in the float contest.

The Carthage Parent Teachers Association held its first meeting of the year at the Community Center on Tuesday September 11 with a pitch in supper. About 100 parents teachers and children attended. Sgt Pea from Rushville spoke on school patrols and a vote approved raincoats and hats for patrol boys.
