Passenger Trains Cease Operation on Central Line
The New York Central passenger trains through Anderson and Greensburg divisions ended last Saturday with no substitute service. A mail express truck began Monday, routing southbound at 11 49 a m and return north at 4 36 p m, stopping at post offices and depots along the line. Towns Carthage Milroy Rushville lose direct passenger service though some towns gain limited express stops.

Two Arrests Made Saturday by Local Officials
John Trent of Greenfield was arrested by Marshal Lon Mc Corkle for shooting chickens on Pitts farm. He pled guilty in Justice of Peace court and paid 10 dollars 90 cents. Bob Price of this place was fined 16 dollars 90 cents on charges of public intoxication and indecency. He was jailed for seventeen days after failing to pay.

Missing Porker Rescued From Sewer Friday
A 150 pound hog belonging to Dave DeWitt was found Friday in a 20 inch sewer on North Main Street near Dr. Robert Spangler. Workers used an ear of corn on a string to lure the animal out, then hauled it up with a rope amid grunts from hog and men.

Carthage Boys In Auto Smash Up
Several Carthage high school boys were in an auto crash Tuesday night when the car driven by Odell Pitts went into a ditch after being blinded by an oncoming vehicle. The car struck a concrete bridge abutment and halted. Frankie Mowery’s car traveled south as Pitts’ northbound car passed near Donald Ruby’s home northeast of town. None were seriously injured though several had minor cuts treated by Dr. George B. McNabb. Passengers in the Pitts car: Odell Pitts Carl Pingleton Buck McCorkle Billy Spacey Max Hunt Lawrence Hunt Philip Winslow Russell Turner. State police responded to the scene.

Funeral for Nolan Wyant Follows Fatal Highway Crash
Nolan Wyant 29 died Monday from internal injuries after a motorcycle crash on U S 40 near Cleveland Indiana. He lived west of Carthage and worked as a Greenfield filling station attendant. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Pasco funeral home in Greenfield with burial in Park Cemetery. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs Otto Wyant and a brother Clarence Wyant. The Illinois driver Walter Glatthaar 44 was involved in the crash, with R E Kinneman Greenfield attending the scene. Wyant died Monday morning at Robert Long hospital Indianapolis.

The Carthage Citizen editor Ed E Bly and his wife left Friday for a western vacation visiting Nebraska Wyoming and Colorado. They were caught in a Denver snowstorm this week and telegrammed a report praising the Royal Gorge and the world's highest bridge. They travel with Mr and Mrs F J Bly of Converse Indiana and expect to return late this week.

Former Carthage Hotel Owner Dies in Gary Indiana
Funeral services were held in Gary Indiana for Mrs. W. W. Grose former proprietor of The Carthage hotel who died at her daughter Mrs. Charles Castle’s home. She is survived by two sons Welden Grose Oswego New York and Glen Grose Chicago two brothers and the Grose family lived here several years ago.
