Small Business Men To Meet In Indianapolis
Indiana small business operators will gather at the Claypool hotel in Indianapolis on Tuesday September 9 to air troubles from high taxes, priority orders and rising costs. Rep. Charles A. Halleck of Indiana's Second District calls the meeting to collect facts to aid proposed small business legislation and invites merchants manufacturers and professionals from across the state to attend. Lightning Strikes Barn on Charles Leisure Farm
A large barn on Charles Leisure’s farm southeast of Carthage was struck by lightning Monday at about 11 a m and burned. Mr and Mrs Frank Beaver reside there. Most farming tools were lost along with several hundred bushels of seed wheat oats and hog feed 10 tons of hay 100 bales of straw and several shoats. Loss partially insured.

Two Men Fined For Intoxication in Local Court
Charles Lillypop of Carthage and R. E. Robinson of Morristown were fined for public intoxication in the local justice of the peace court. Lillypop was picked up near the canning factory and fined $2 plus $4 is costs. Robinson, involved in a south town automobile incident, paid $5.90 in fines.

Death of Weldon Hill in Carthage
Weldon Eugene Hill aged 22 died Sunday morning at his parents home after an extended illness. Born April 17 1916 in Carthage he graduated from Carthage High School in 1934 and played on the basketball team. Survivors include his parents three brothers Harold Raymond and Verland and sister Pauline Phillips. Final rites were held Tuesday at the A M E church with Rev Wm Bemis assisted by Rev Greer. Elder Morton Brooks led prayer and Lawrence Carter presented the obituary.

Stolen 1936 Ford V-8 Belongs to Wilbur Gatewood
A 1936 Ford V-8 owned by Wilbur Gatewood was reported stolen Monday night from beside the Gatewood home. A family member heard the theft and Marshal McCorkle led town searches and notified state police, but no trace has been found.

Auto Victim Recovering From Injuries In Cincinnati
Sandra McCrory daughter of Mr and Mrs Herschell McCrory of Cincinnati is recovering after being struck by an automobile a week ago. She suffered a broken leg and bruises and is improving at the Methodist hospital. Doctors expect to move her to her home in a few days.

Train Service Still Available
The New York Central railroad faced continued protests over plans to end passenger trains through Carthage Knights town and Rushville. Despite initial August 23 and August 30 dates, trains Nos. 139 and 140 remained running under a 90 day trial and then indefinitely after hearings with the Public Service Commission. The order did not affect the Anderson Elkhart run, leaving Carthage without alternative transportation if service ends.

Town Council Votes to Return to Central Standard Time
At the September meeting the town council voted unanimously to switch back to Central Standard Time effective September 6 at midnight. Daylight saving time had been adopted July 29 after nearby towns. Earlier planned return date was September 28 but immediate change was approved. Other business included final tax budget passage and payment of several bills.
