Born Saturday a son to Mr and Mrs Autrey Lunsford of Carthage R R 2 at Rush Memorial Hospital. Mr and Mrs Orville Clayton Logan of Carthage are parents of a girl born in Henry County Hospital at New Castle.
Miss Cindy Brooks Miss Mary In Pitts and Lynn Kennedy of Carthage entered Ball State Teachers College Muncie as freshmen on Tuesday. Other Ball State graduates from the area include Lou Magee Leo and Joe Foust Randy and Gary McClurg.
Attendees from the vicinity at the Nelson reunion included Mrs. Oliver Earnest, Mr. and Mrs. John Nelson and their son, Mrs. Vera Nelson, and Mr. and Mrs. William Nelson with daughter Donna Kay. The event took place Sunday at the Shelter House in Riley Park, Greenfield.
Mr. and Mrs. Benny Kelly and their son left Sunday morning by car for Anchorage Alaska after visiting Mrs. Kelly's parents Mr. and Mrs. Russell Shutt Sr of A R12. The family arrived June 1st and Mr Kelly joined on August 14th.
Mr and Mrs Robert Martz and son Robert of Indianapolis and Mr and Mrs Louis Humes of Carthage returned to their homes Tuesday evening from a week long vacation in Florida. They also visited other southern states and spent time with Mr and Mrs M L Edwards at Mt Dora near Orlando. On the return trip they toured the Smoky Mountains.
Fall Festival Talent Show announced for Friday night September 25 with committee led by Hubert Hunt as chairman. Bob Edwards Mrs Lyle Plank Mrs Kenneth Land and Mrs Russell Shutt Jr invite participants to contact committee members.
Mr and Mrs Harold Davis and Ruth of Greenfield along with Patty Gorman Daniel West and family Duane Davis and Nick Durbin of Franklin attended the boat races at Madison Sunday. West and son were weekend guests of the Davises. Labor Day suppers included Duane Davis Roy Wulf and spouses.
Mrs. Phillip Sattler returns home from Rushville nursing home near Carthage while Tom Manuel recovers at home with a broken leg. Mrs. Oran Henley and Mrs. Luther Hall remain under care in Carthage and Rush Memorial Hospital. Elmer Mawk seeks treatment at Rush Memorial. Gloria Taylor of Muncie, daughter of Mrs. Harold Taylor, convalesces at Community Hospital in Muncie after a severe arm fracture in room 103. The Taylor family formerly lived in Carthage. Mary Gorman convalesces at Henry County Hospital undergoing treatment.
The Carthage P.T.O. hosts a cooperative dinner September 15 at 7 p.m. at the Community Center to welcome teachers. All parents of school children are invited. Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority notes a regular meeting postponed to September 22 this month.
Dinner guests on Labor Day included Mr and Mrs Elmer Hall of Manilla and visitors Mr and Mrs Richard Pratt of Sexton with their granddaughter.
Carthage Lions Club announces visit of Lions District Governor Carter Everage of Versailles for a community center dinner Monday September 14 at 7 p.m. Everage, a Ripley County farmer and former teacher, outlines plans for increased service and reports on the Toronto convention. Accompanying him is Cabinet secretary Stanley Underwood.
The public is invited to the Eighteenth Annual Southeast ern Indiana 4 H Steer Show and Sale at Rush County Fairgrounds Rushville Indiana on September 12. Steers arrive September 11 with weighing and tagging from 4 30 p m to 10 30 p m. Judge Carl Scott Yorktown presides at 8 00 a m. Parade of champions at 12 30 p m and auction at 1 00 p m with auctioneer Col Lewis Beesley Westport. 237 steers entered by 152 4 H club members from 11 counties. Sponsored by Rushville Chamber of Commerce with Indianapolis Livestock Producers assisting.
The Carthage Literary Circle will meet on Monday September 14 at 12 noon for a cooperative luncheon at the home of Mrs. Robert Walker.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Shutt Sr hosted a wiener roast for their children and guests from Indianapolis including Mr. and Mrs. Benny Kelly and son who planned Alaska travel. Attendees included multiple Indianapolis families andCar tohage visitors. overnight guests joined in Saturday. Fifty two percent of 4 H Club members now come from urban or suburban homes.
Carthage opened the baseball season with a 7-4 victory over Milroy after trailing 4-1 through four innings. Porter fanned five for Carthage, while Jordan struck out eight for Milroy. Edwards doubled for the Raiders and Lafuse had three hits.
The Carthage Raiders edged New Salem 2 to 1 on the Eagles diamond Wednesday. Porter fanned 11, issued two walks, and held New Salem to three hits. Carthage scored in the second, third, and seventh innings. New Salem plated a run in the first. Batteries Porter and Mofield for Carthage. Dalrymple and Alford for New Salem.
Rush County 4-H and farmers won prizes at the Indiana State Fair in cattle, poultry, and floriculture events. Congress man Ralph Harvey hosted about fifty industrial leaders at his New Castle home to discuss boosting domestic jobs, trade imbalances, and proposed tariff actions to shield US industry from cheap imports.
Fletcher Edwards was guest of honor at a Labor Day supper hosted by his son Jerry Edwards and family in Carthage marking his 75th birthday on September 8. Attendees included extended Edwards families from Carthage Charlottesville and Knightstown. The evening featured Bingo with multiple prizes.

Tickets go on sale at Carthage Radio Appliance Shop with reserved seats for 1.00 and general admission 75 cents. The Queen Contest committee meets September 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Carthage Community Center.
The September meeting of the Christian Women Fellowship was held last Thursday at 2 p.m. in the church basement with President Mrs. Thomas Bush in charge. Mrs. Paul Boulton led devotions and Mrs. Guy Endainty gave the Spanish American lesson. Thirteen members attended and refreshments were served.
The four Hs stand for Head Heart Hands and Health, guiding youth development through education character and service.
The Carthage Band Boosters met Tuesday September 8 at 7 30 p m in the School Band room with 15 present. Officers elected were Mrs Jesse Barry president Mrs Ralph DeBoard vice president and Virginia Wells secretary and treasurer. Mrs Dale May thanked helpers from her year as president. A business meeting followed.

Enrollment in Carthage schools shows 458 students including 256 in kindergarten and grades 1 through 12. Events include PTO supper for new teachers and Elks Club party for county teachers.
Kelli Gatewood daughter of Mr. and Mrs Ronald Gatewood celebrated her third birthday Tuesday afternoon with a party. The High School Band, 58 members, met 33 times with an average attendance of 53. Perfect attendance included Darlene Barry and Robert Lee among others. several missed one to three times. Nine morning marching sessions averaged 18 attendees for beginners and those with marching issues.
