Mrs. Davie Hinton of Carthage and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gorman with their son from Knightstown returned home after a ten day vacation in Mississippi Louisiana Florida and the Smoky Mountains. In medical news seven year old Allen Sanders is recovering from a broken leg at Rush Memorial Hospital. Hiram Renfro of Shirley is seriously ill in Indianapolis Veterans Hospital. Mike Lafuse is slowly recovering at home from a broken leg. Mrs. Luther Hall and Elmer Mank are convalescing at Rush Memorial Hospital.

Carthage Band Scores At Indiana State Fair Contests
Carthage High School marching band performed well at the Indiana State Fair over two days. On Tuesday they placed third of 17 in the Farmers Day Parade, while Wednesday’s big band division saw them finish 40th of 89. Other local groups posted varied results with Morristown tenth and Southwestern eleventh Tuesday. The Farmers Day winner was Pike Township with Danville runner up. Wednesday’s statewide winner was Ben Davis of Marion County, with Madison Heights second and Vincennes third. Disqualifications occurred for Charlottesville Wilkinson and Mt Vernon in earlier rounds.

The Summer Mixed Double Bowling League held a dinner Friday night at the Smorgasbord in Hagerstown to cap the season with about thirty attendees. Deer Hunting Rules Set After Public Hearing
Deer regulations approved after a July 21 1964 hearing mirror earlier proposals by the Division of Fish and Game Indiana. One change limits archers to a controlled Crane Depot hunt with dates October 31 November 7 14 and 21, 30 state hunters chosen by public drawing. Archers may take one deer during October 24 to November 21, with all counties open. Gun season runs November 26 through December 5 with one buck per county, and on opening day certain counties and areas may take one deer of either sex.

Fall Festival plans announced with queen contest and parade
A Community Center meeting outlined the fall festival schedule from September 23 to 26. About 29 queen candidates, led by co chair Cynthia Pearson, will compete in the Queen Contest. Thursday features a church sponsored Smorgasbord with a free will offering. Events include plant sale, Fish Fry, children contests, parade open to pets and floats, cake walk, and a Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority dance. Miss Congeniality will be chosen from queen candidates.
