Craig Lafuse of Carthage led the field in the Indiana Farm Bureau 4H amateur contest held at the State Fair Farmers Building from 10 am to 12 noon. In age 10 to 14, he earned a $14 cash prize after 24 acts from across the state. Third place went to Jan et Gray and Barbara Jo Mann for a vocal duet while Douglas Holley of Kentland took second.

Carthage star Bob McCorkle topped the Arlington Softball League batting race with a .436 average on 17 hits in 39 plate appearances.
