Methodist Youth Delegates at Evanston Conference

Rev N I Schoolfield and four youths from Rushville were elected delegates to the National Council of Methodist Youth in Evanston Illinois August 30 to September 2. Over 1000 youths from every state attended. They debated war and peace economic system race relations and Christian principles. They pledged to buy nowhere in Evanston avoiding discrimination and urged unity among Methodist groups to build a better world.

Messrs Roy Newby and Douglas Cooper visited Rushville on Monday where Newby presented a petition for appointment as Justice of the Peace in Ripley Township. He was appointed by the commissioners and instructed to file bond with the county clerk so the governor can grant his commission. Ripley Township has lacked a Justice of the Peace since the death of Wm. N. Hinshaw several weeks ago, who served as squire for many years.

Carthage Schools Open Monday With New Session Times

The Carthage schools begin regular sessions Monday September 10 from 8:00 to 12:00 and 12:45 to 3:40. Parents should have children arrive after 8:00 and before 8:25 to allow teachers to settle in. Students are urged to secure books by Monday to avoid lost classroom time.
