New School Bus License Rules Announced by Officials

Robert S. Moore of the local license bureau outlines major changes to school bus licenses under Acts of 1941. Harry A. Sharpe of the State License Bureau released the new regulations with instructions to use Form 4, obtain a sticker in place of plates, and file on Special Item Invoice.

Local resident departs for Texas on homemade scooter

Russell Faull cousin of Ray Addison leaves Carthage for Del Valle Texas aboard a home made motor scooter packed with bags and a guitar. He plans a sixteen day crossing despite doubts, praising his mechanical skill and auto clutch. He may return next spring after spending winter in the south.

Little Girl Struck By Automobile in Cincinnati

Sandra daughter of Mr and Mrs Herschell McCrory of Cincinnati suffered serious injuries Thursday afternoon when struck by a car driven by Mr and Mrs Burl Magee. She was visiting grandparents Dr and Mrs F M Miller. She darted into the street and was knocked down breaking a leg with cuts and bruises. The accident was considered unavoidable. She was taken to a hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.

Milton Kenworthy is seriously ill at the home of his son Reverend Murray Kenworthy. He has been bedfast for some time and shows little improvement at this writing.

Stores to Close on Labor Day

Practically all retail business will be suspended on Carthage Monday September 1 Labor Day. Grocery stores will remain closed from Saturday night until Tuesday morning as will the hardware store radio shop drug store and others. The post office will remain open until 9 00 a m. Filling stations and restaurants will probably be open for business as usual.

Unemployment Claims Rise Across Indiana in July

Unemployment benefits in Rush County totaled 734 dollars in July up from 373 in June and 1 546 in July 1940. statewide benefits reached 337 726 50 with July claims about 81 000 higher than June. Evansville and New Castle areas driven by auto plants show the rise as model changes extend production into July and August.

Reception at Fletcher Methodist Church in Carthage and Walnut Ridge

A Friday reception at Fletcher Methodist Church honored the re decoration of the church with Rev. C. V. McMillan in charge. The event drew about sixty attendees from local churches and featured talks, musical numbers by Leonard Thomas, a piano solo by Alice Ruth Hunt, readings by Lawrence Carter, plus a quartet from Fletcher Methodist. Tea and wafers followed served by committee members.

Misses Alta Irene Carfield Return From Denver Summer

The Misses Alta and Irene Carfield and their mother Myrtle Carfield return by the northern route from Denver. Alta and Irene attended the University of Denver and enjoyed a rainy summer. They visited Miss Lillie Weingart in Littleton and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sluyter in Hammond. Irene leaves Sunday for Frankfort where her school begins Monday.

C R Gutermuth acting director announces an open pheasant season from Monday November 10 to Wednesday November 19 with a daily bag of two birds and four in possession. One hen limit per day with a two hen possession limit. Peak hunting in northern Indiana. Season approved by the State Conservation Advisory Committee after a survey showing record pheasant numbers.
