Vacation Trip Spends Time in West by Jet Plane

Mrs. Lee Patton and her children Mary and Rick left August 8 by jet to Santa Barbara California as guests of her sister Mrs. Howard C. Parke. Rick stayed two weeks then flew home. After a week at the Parke home Mrs Patton and Mary visited relatives in Utah and Idaho and returned home Tuesday evening August 30.

Fletcher Methodist Church Announces Upcoming Events

Dr Harold Criswell district superintendent will deliver the morning message on September 11. A public Smorgasbord for the building fund is planned for September 17. A District meeting of the Woman's Society of Christian Service is set for September 20. Layman's Day is October 9. Rally Day and Homecoming occur October 16 with Dr Lee Jarrett delivering the morning message and a carry in dinner at noon followed by an afternoon program. Jerry L Montgomery, long time biology teacher at Angola High School, has been named a Doctoral Fellow in Biology at Ball State University. He previously taught at Milton High School Fountain City High School and Carthage High School and holds a B S from Purdue and an M A in Biology from Ball State. Mr and Mrs H A Ruby of Carthage return home from a ten day vacation in Michigan including Mackinaw City Mackinac Island and Ludington.

Russell Leisurees Win Six Indiana State Fair Ribbons

Mr and Mrs Russell Leisure of R2 Carthage reported six ribbon awards for antique exhibits at the Indiana State Fair. Awards covered a cut glass pitcher, rare teapot, miniature doll before 1900, toothpick holder, salt and pepper, and pattern glass bread plate with placing from 2nd to 5th in various class sizes. Also local hospital and health notices follow.

Mr and Mrs Arthur W Winfield of Carthage celebrate fifty years of marriage. They wed September 6 1916 at the Noros home in Carthage in a ceremony conducted by Rev H Hole. They have two daughters Ramona Jane Lloyd and Juanita Doebber, three grandchildren and one great grandson. Mr Winfield long active in Carthage business and local banking. Carthage Band Places Seventh at Farmers Parade

Carthage School Band finished 7th among 17 entries in the Farmers Day parade at the Indiana State Fair on Tuesday, earning $25. The Farmers Day contest was won by Pike Township of Marion County with Seccina 2nd and Hancock Central 3rd. The big Band Day on Wednesday saw Ben Davis take 1st with Crown Point 2nd.

Army Clerk Dick Patterson Receives Commendation in Germany

Unit letter praises Sp 4 Dick Patterson, company clerk of the Im port Company, for diligent orderly room administration. Patterson entered the army in June 1965 and has been in Germany since February 1966. Pvt Gene Patterson returns to Ft Leonard Wood for schooling after 8 weeks of basic at Fort Jackson. Army Private Michael Day, 18, trains at Fort Jackson with instruction in small unit tactics and weapons including the M 60 machinegun and 3.5 inch rocket launcher.

Auxiliary Officers Installed Monday at Carthage Legion Unit

The Carthage American Legion Auxiliary held its first meeting after installation on Monday February 1968 at the Community Center. Mrs Forrest Beck opened with prayer and minutes from June were read. Reports included Past Presidents meeting and unit activities. A float for the Fall Festival was certified and a veterans craft booth plus cake walk were planned. New president Mrs Gardner gave remarks.
