The Carthage Band Boosters will meet Tuesday September 6 at 7 30 p m in the school building. All members are urged to attend this important business meeting.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Ruby and daughters of Carthage concluded a few days vacation in Ontario Canada and stopped at Ludington Michigan on their way back to Carthage.
Sp. 4 Larry L. Bramel was honorably discharged from the Army at Ft. Dix New Jersey on August 24 He returned to his Carthage home Saturday evening after fifteen months of overseas duty in Germany
Mr and Mrs Fred McManus and guest Miss Carrie McManus of Indianapolis attend the twentieth annual reunion of former students and teachers at the Jackson Township School held Sunday August 28.
Mr. and Mrs. George B. McNabb Jr. of Fairbanks Alaska announce the birth of a daughter Mit chi Vere on August 23 at St. Joseph Hospital Fairbanks. Grandparents are Mrs. Clarence Henley and Dr. and Mrs. George B. McNabb of Carthage. Mrs. McNabb is the former Miss Suzanne Bramel of Carthage.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the Owaneco Methodist Church for Bern Daugherty 82 with heart failure listed as the cause. Surviving are son Paul Daugherty of Atlanta and daughter Mrs Lavonne Spence of Carthage with a granddaughter and two great grandchildren. another son Virgil died in 1945.
The Carthage Better Business Association will meet at noon on Tuesday September 6 in the Hoosier Manor dining room.

Mr and Mrs Ronald Myers of Carthage R R 1 welcomed a son Phillip Dean born August 24 at Henry County Hospital weighing 5 pounds 8% ounces. A boy was born Monday at Rush Memorial Hospital to Mr and Mrs Gale Carter of Carthage. Mr and Mrs Virgil Nolen welcomed a seven pound son Virgil Jr born Thursday August 25 at Rush Memorial Hospital. A Thursday birth at Rush Memorial Hospital added a son to Mr and Mrs Robert Earl McCorkle.
Jim Terhune a Taylor University junior and president of the Taylor MSM, is one of three representatives attending the regional planning conference of the Methodist Student Movement this week. The meeting runs from August 29 to September 4 on the campus of Illinois Northern University in DeKalb, Illinois.
Joe Foust Orba Fitch Ronnie Myers and Bonnie Jo Howard all from Carthage returned Sunday to Elkhart University after a two week vacation at home.
A committee including Gladys Butler Betty Sullivan Mary Nigh and Hazel Eakins arranged a display for the Mixers Home Economics Club at the Indiana State Fair. The exhibit is viewable by visitors in the Women's Building on site.
The Carthage American Legion Auxiliary installed its 1960-61 officers at a Monday meeting at the Community Center. New president Mrs. George McNabb presided and named standing committees while delegates planned a parade float and a fall festival.
The Chi Rho met at the Christian Church on Monday August 29 with 16 members and 2 teachers present. Plans were made for a cookie sale on Saturday September 3 at 9:00 a.m. Cookies will be sold for 30 cents a dozen. Larry Bush and Jerry May led songs. Mr and Mrs Finley Smith came home Monday after a four day vacation with his sister and family Mr and Mrs Jack Hyser in Kansas City Missouri.
Sgt Curtis Lewman Mrs Lewman and daughter Carol moved from Carthage last Friday to Waco Texas to resume duty after returning from overseas service. The family relocates as Sgt Lewman returns to base duties following overseas assignment.
Den No. 1 met August 29 at Mrs. Freeman Blessinger home with seven cubs attending. A cook-out and athletic activities followed including a relay race and a hundred yard dash won by Vernon Little. Signed Denner and Rick McNabb.
A Rush County Center Township United Fund meeting met at Clarence Dyer’s home Thursday night to outline the fall drive set for October 3. Dyer presided as township chair with Bob Waggoner offering new ideas, and Dwight McDaniel, Mrs. Everett Stanley, Mrs. Marvin Johnson, Charles Peggs, Mrs. Robert Morgan, and Don Addison in attendance.
Rush County youths submit entries for the Indiana State Fair running August 31 through September 7. Participants span Beef, Dairy, Lamb, Swine, Poultry, Garden, Entomology, Forestry, Wildlife, Soil Conservation, Photography, and Electric divisions with numerous 4 H members named by township and exhibit category. Notables include Edward Meyer Noble Township, Louis White Center Township, John Hurst Orange Township, and Jim Geise Noble Township among others. Several youths will also stay at the State Fair Boy's Club Camp, including Alan Snedegar Hank Godby Dean Thompson and Louis White.
Friday evening guests included Mr. and Mrs. John Hartzler and daughter Carol and Lynete Lower, Mr. Ray Hartzler, and Mrs. Ethel Hartzler, all from Rushville, visiting Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rhodes.
Mrs. Joyce C. White aged 32 died Thursday at Randolph County Memorial Hospital Winchester after a short illness. Funeral services were held at Fountain City Friends Church Saturday afternoon. She is survived by husband Rev. Edgar C. White two sons Fred Joseph and Timothy Edgar a daughter Deborah Mae her father Martin Cox four sisters and two brothers.
Robert Moore of Carthage Tractor and Implement Co and John Deere dealer returned to Indianapolis from Dallas after attending a Deere & Co dealers meeting. The Dallas event showcased the new generation of power tractors with demonstrations. About 5 000 of 6 000 attendees were airlifted into Dallas in 24 hours, aided by 16 airlines, in a record lifting effort. The gathering used Love Field Memorial Auditorium Fair Park Cotton Bowl and adjacent venues along with 21 hotels to promote the event.
Mr and Mrs George Apple hosted Mr and Mrs Larry Apple and daughters in Ci cero Indiana. Harriad Chew and children visited Lake Shafer with Wayne Horton and son from Oaklandon. Richard Harrold and family joined Mr and Mrs Cash Essington of Spiceland. Hubert Chance and family from Rushville visited Monday evening. Mrs Herbert Fannin and son Ronnie joined Judy Fannin returning from Upper Tygart Kentucky with Estel Fannin. Lillian Moore stayed with Robert Sharer in Clayton. Cathy Gardner from Shelbyville stayed with Eugene Gardner and sons from Thursday to Sunday. Jack Elder of South Bend called on Oliver Earnest of Carthage and Albert Hopkins of Knightstown during their honeymoon in Miami Florida.
Charles Ray formerly of Carthage died Wednesday night in Tucson Arizona. He was found dead in his room. He is survived by his mother two sisters Mrs Melba Stutsz and Mrs Lulu Lester both of Indianapolis five brothers Vernon of Connersville Sylvester of Texas Arnold of Tucson Curtis Dale and Dalton both of New York. Funeral services will be held at the Conkle Funeral Home in Indianapolis Saturday at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Arlington Cemetery.

Carthage residents Mae Moore Mary Jo Joseph Norma McKain Jane Rhodes and Bertha Rowan were among attendees at the Rushville Court House for the Rush County Women's Republican Club meeting. An October 19 luncheon at the Durbin Hotel is planned with co chairmen Floyd Kirklin and Robert Scott. The group discussed fall campaign activities and called on all members to participate. President Mary L Wilson urged watching September newspapers for key fall campaign announcements.
The 18 foot fiberglass President Eisenhower boat will be back in Indiana for display at the 1960 Indiana State Fair from August 31 to September 8. The vessel which once travelled to Russia will be shown with an off white hull yellow deck and no prop or rudder powered by water turbines. A cooperative effort by Estel Callahan Indiana Gear Works and Senator Homer Capehart along with the fair board and MG A Chicago will bring the boat home after paper work is completed.
The Black Bear tavern in Rush County closed after a license denial. Local groups voted to buy the East Mill Street property from Ross Parish, with an option and down payment already made. Donations and public contributions will fund the purchase, with further meetings planned.
Social visit notes list Miss Linda Apple of Cicero staying with the Apples and the Stapps from Wednesday to Sunday. The Fox family from Indianapolis visited the Rolands Sunday to Tuesday. Various households hosted Sunday gatherings at Hope Lake, Wabash, and Greenfield, including the Bussards, Sipes, Geises, Carfields, and extended families from Indianapolis and Oklahoma City.
Eldon Plank led the Carthage Merchants to a strong season finish with a .383 batting average. He posted 12 hits in 18 at bats over the final five games, beating Fred Magee for the batting crown as the team went 21 wins in 27 games and earned three trophies across league county and district events.
