The Ergon Class of Fletcher Methodist Church holds a market and bake sale at The Citizen Office this Saturday October 30 1965 starting at 10 am. Your patronage is appreciated.
Donald Ruby has been appointed chairman of Ripley Two for the United Fund Drive. The township and town of Carthage will be canvassed house to house with Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority members handling the town canvas. Agencies affiliated with the United Fund include agriculture agencies, American Red Cross, Mental Health Association, Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, USO, and Rush County Youth Activities.
The P. T. O. hosts a Halloween party for Ripley Two children on Saturday October 30 at 7 p.m. A masked parade will run downtown followed by a 22 movie at the Community Center. Prizes will be awarded to winners.
Van Overman spent the teachers institute vacation in Madison Wisconsin with Mr and Mrs James Overman and returned with Mr and Mrs Kirby Overman from Otterbein Indiana also visiting Madison. The Overman family then traveled to Otterbein to see Mr and Mrs Kirby Overman before Van's return home.
Gary Linville and Mrs Loyal Hunt were released from Rush Memorial Hospital after recent surgery and stay. Mrs Lewis Henderson continues recovery at Henry County Hospital New Castle after major surgery. Grace Gurley remains steady at Jackson Nursing Home Rushville. Eva Herkless stable at Carthage home. Earl McCorkle admitted to Rush Memorial Hospital last week. Ralph Truitt recovers from a fall and injuries sustained weeks ago.
Mr and Mrs Lyle Plank with Kim Doug and Richard Magee vacationed in the south from Thursday through Sunday visiting Ghost Town in Maggie Valley Cherokee Village Smoky Mountain National Park and Gatlinburg Tennessee retaining a record of sightseeing in a short trip.
Mrs. Preston Bethel an eighth grade English teacher and counselor at Tekoppel School Evansville was elected by acclamation as the 111th ISTA president to succeed C Edgar Stahl of Indianapolis. She has led Indiana and national education groups and will assume office January 1.
Carthage churches host revival at Nazarene Church October 28 through November 7 led by Rev. L W Williams and Rev and Mrs Marcellus Crider from Shelbyville Indiana. Fletcher Methodist observes Rally Day and Homecoming with programs and a pitch in. World Community Day activities include sewing kits and shipments to South America led by East St Christian Church women. Tenth District Convention held at East St Christian with two hundred attendees and leadership from Carthage, Rushville, Little Flatrock, and Orange churches.
Mr and Mrs Caleb Marsh and daughter Judy Marsh arrived home last Thursday after a ten day trip to Land O Lakes Wisconsin. They said fishing was good and the weather was wonderful during their stay.
Richard Harrold of Route 1 Carthage earns an all expenses paid three day trip to Quincy Illinois. The visit includes plant tours dairy unit tests and Q A sessions with Moorman Mfg Co staff. Harrold has shown sales progress and completed part of a livestock nutrition course. He is from Knightstown and is husband to Joyce Draper Harrold.
Mrs Darrell Rowan and Mrs Frank Alexander will host the new Auxiliary meeting at 8 p.m. at the Community Center on Monday November 1 1865.
Purdue University extension confirms sixteen Extension Schools and meetings for Rush County this winter and spring. Programs include Beef Cattle Feeders Tour November 17, Swine Disease and Health November 18, Weaning More and Better Pigs December 2, Pigs to Pork December 21, Zoning and Planning December 6, District Farm Account December 9, Crop Extension December 17, Farm Record Books January 4, Marketing on the Futures Market January 10, Advanced Farm Management January 11 25 February 1, District Farm Policy January 27 Connersville, Dairy Extension February 8 10 15, Grain Handling March 1 8, Corn and Soybean Weed Control March 16, Weather Study March 29, Beef Cattle Tour March 30, Farm Management Tour July 19. In all, 23 meetings planned. Farmers and others invited. specifics on location to follow.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Moore of Carthage stayed with Mr and Mrs Sheldon Winner in Cir cleville Ohio from Thursday to Sunday enjoying the annual Pumpkin Show activities including a parade daily programs and shows during their visit
Judy Kennedy is in her senior year of a four year occupational therapy program at Indiana University School of Medicine after two years at Purdue. She and fellow students gain clinical experience in Indianapolis facilities under faculty, aiming for B S degrees and American Occupational Therapy Association registration. The program, open to men and women, was approved in 1959 and Indiana has the state’s only OT training program.
The district reports scores for Academic Progress Tests and Scholastic Aptitude tests this fall. High school students may compare yearly scores and national benchmarks soon. The PTO Halloween Party is set for October 30 at 7 PM in front of Tweedy Memorial Community Center with cartoons, prizes, and refreshments. Bonita Gatewood Brackman earned IU correspondence graduation. The Spanish Club elected Sherry McKain president and officers include Diane Whitfield and others. Weekly school menu announced for the coming week in the CHS lunchroom.
Miss Lou Ella Magee editor of the Ball State yearbook traveled from Weir Cook Airport to San Francisco as one of three Ball State delegates to a yearbook convention. She is a senior majoring in English and Social Studies and is involved with Burris High School in Muncie.
Reverend and Mrs. Anne Faris of Carlisle Indiana moved last week to Sullivan Nursing Home in Sullivan Indiana. Mrs Faris remains about the same since her hospitalization. The Faris family left Carthage in 1952 and he served at Fletcher Methodist Church. Mr and Mrs Stan Lynch and their children visited them Friday.
The Carthage Band Booster group will hold a meeting on Tuesday November 2 at 7 30 PM in the school band room to discuss activities and plans.

Mrs. Ode ssa Bieschke home economics teacher at Carthage was hospitalized in Litchfield Kentucky after a weekend auto accident. Her Indianapolis home is listed as her residence and her return to school is expected in about a week with details of injuries and accident unavailable.
A crowd at the Rushville Justice of Peace court witnessed a rare trial between Carthage families. Judge Robert Hinshaw declared Mr. and Mrs. Norman Edwards not guilty of assault and battery against Susan Skinner, alleged to have occurred on September 30 on South Main Street Carthage.
Mr. Jerry Carter of Knightstown suffered first to third degree burns over most of his body in a 3:30 am gas furnace explosion. The pilot light was out and attempting to relight caused the blast. He lies in Robert Long Hospital Indianapolis Ward C. Carter is known in the Carthage area and is brother of Mrs. Bill Windsor of Carthage.
A large crowd packed Carthage High School gym for the summer band awards and the basketball preview. Band Director Bob Edwards announced new Band Boosters officers for 1965 66 while presenting medals and certificates to members. Varsity coach Richard Trubey introduced candidates and cheerleaders for both varsity and B teams as two referees explained new rules.
Jackie L. Howard age 20 of Carthage with employer Chrysler Corp. and Linda S. Nichols age 19 of Indianapolis with employer Western Electric. Stanley Eugene Back age 19 of Carthage with employer Guide Lamp Anderson and Judith Ann Fuchs age 18 of Carthage with employer an insurance company.
Arthur Malson Rush County Auditor was elected president of the Southeastern District Auditor's Association at Seymour. The district includes 19 counties. Norman G. Theobald Shelby County Auditor was chosen vice-president and Willis P. Nelson Scott County Auditor was elected secretary-treasurer.
The Christian Women Fellowship holds its regular monthly meeting Thursday afternoon November 4 at the church. Mrs Forrest Moore and Mrs Lesta Heifner will serve as hostesses.
The Mixers Home Demonstration Club will hold its November meeting at Mrs. Robert White’s home on R. 1 next Friday November 5 with a lesson on Freezer Effectively conducted by Mrs. Hazel Eakins.
