Appointed Ripley Two Chairman for United Fund Drive

Donald Ruby has been appointed chairman of Ripley Two for the United Fund Drive. The township and town of Carthage will be canvassed house to house with Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority members handling the town canvas. Agencies affiliated with the United Fund include agriculture agencies, American Red Cross, Mental Health Association, Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, USO, and Rush County Youth Activities.

P. T. O Halloween Party in Ripley Two Sends Kids Trick or Treat

The P. T. O. hosts a Halloween party for Ripley Two children on Saturday October 30 at 7 p.m. A masked parade will run downtown followed by a 22 movie at the Community Center. Prizes will be awarded to winners.

Overman Family Ties Weekend Visit in Wisconsin and Indiana

Van Overman spent the teachers institute vacation in Madison Wisconsin with Mr and Mrs James Overman and returned with Mr and Mrs Kirby Overman from Otterbein Indiana also visiting Madison. The Overman family then traveled to Otterbein to see Mr and Mrs Kirby Overman before Van's return home.

Indiana Teachers elect new ISTA president Mrs Bethel

Mrs. Preston Bethel an eighth grade English teacher and counselor at Tekoppel School Evansville was elected by acclamation as the 111th ISTA president to succeed C Edgar Stahl of Indianapolis. She has led Indiana and national education groups and will assume office January 1.

Carthage churches host revival at Nazarene Church October 28 through November 7 led by Rev. L W Williams and Rev and Mrs Marcellus Crider from Shelbyville Indiana. Fletcher Methodist observes Rally Day and Homecoming with programs and a pitch in. World Community Day activities include sewing kits and shipments to South America led by East St Christian Church women. Tenth District Convention held at East St Christian with two hundred attendees and leadership from Carthage, Rushville, Little Flatrock, and Orange churches.

Judy Kennedy Senior Year in Indiana OT Program

Judy Kennedy is in her senior year of a four year occupational therapy program at Indiana University School of Medicine after two years at Purdue. She and fellow students gain clinical experience in Indianapolis facilities under faculty, aiming for B S degrees and American Occupational Therapy Association registration. The program, open to men and women, was approved in 1959 and Indiana has the state’s only OT training program.

Progress tests and PTA Halloween party scheduled

The district reports scores for Academic Progress Tests and Scholastic Aptitude tests this fall. High school students may compare yearly scores and national benchmarks soon. The PTO Halloween Party is set for October 30 at 7 PM in front of Tweedy Memorial Community Center with cartoons, prizes, and refreshments. Miss Lou Ella Magee editor of the Ball State yearbook traveled from Weir Cook Airport to San Francisco as one of three Ball State delegates to a yearbook convention. She is a senior majoring in English and Social Studies and is involved with Burris High School in Muncie.

Faris Couple Relocate to Sullivan Nursing Home

Reverend and Mrs. Anne Faris of Carlisle Indiana moved last week to Sullivan Nursing Home in Sullivan Indiana. Mrs Faris remains about the same since her hospitalization. The Faris family left Carthage in 1952 and he served at Fletcher Methodist Church. Mr and Mrs Stan Lynch and their children visited them Friday.

Knightstown Man Burned in Gas Furnace Explosion

Mr. Jerry Carter of Knightstown suffered first to third degree burns over most of his body in a 3:30 am gas furnace explosion. The pilot light was out and attempting to relight caused the blast. He lies in Robert Long Hospital Indianapolis Ward C. Carter is known in the Carthage area and is brother of Mrs. Bill Windsor of Carthage.

Large crowd at Carthage High pre season basketball event

A large crowd packed Carthage High School gym for the summer band awards and the basketball preview. Band Director Bob Edwards announced new Band Boosters officers for 1965 66 while presenting medals and certificates to members. Varsity coach Richard Trubey introduced candidates and cheerleaders for both varsity and B teams as two referees explained new rules.
