The Carthage Citizen asks anyone who knows Ripley boys serving in Viet Nam to call 565 5385. Names already known include Larry Marsh Ray Dye Curtis Lewman William Loveall Ed McMahan and Jack Porter.
The Town Council in regular session named Hubert Hunt as the water and sewage bill collector for monthly duties beginning in January after seven other applicants sought the job. Mrs. Mary Gatewood had recently resigned from the post.
Governor Roger D. Branigin appoints 35 year old Carthage businessman Jack F. Tweedy to the State Welfare Board replacing Democrat Claude Spillman of Rushville. Both men are Democrats.
Arlington school vandalized after 8 p.m. Sunday entry through a restroom window. Hallway floors scattered with leaves and trash while liquid solder was squirted into door locks, according to School Principal Jerry Fox and the county sheriff's department.
Alton Gordon of Washington Township was re elected for a two year term as county president of the Rush Co Farm Bureau Inc at the annual meeting held last week at the Production Credit Room Rushville Wayne Logan of Union Two was elected vice chairman of the organization
David McNabb and Clarence McNabb of Ft. Wayne were weekend guests of their brother Dr George McNabb and Mrs McNabb. The men attended Homecoming at Indiana University and the football game on Saturday.
Mr and Mrs Ross Tweedy came home last Friday after a two week trip to Florida. They toured the west and east coasts and visited Mrs Nellie Tweedy and Mrs Gladys Davis in Florida including Ft Lauderdale and Brandon.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Muir of R.1 Knightstown bought a farm on R.1 Carthage just west of Charlottesville road bridge. Her parents Mr. and Mrs. Richard Harrold bought a home on the Knightstown pike and plan to move from their farm near Carthage.
Finley Smith and sons Glen of Carthage and Jack of Greenfield, Jim Lukens of Knightstown, and Sam Gray of Carthage were on a work trip the past two weeks near Waynesville Missouri. Mrs Finley Smith and Mrs Jack Smith enjoyed a brief pleasure trip nearby last week and returned home Saturday.
Ten weeks after treatment at Rush Memorial Hospital Ralph Truitt returns to his Carthage home. Pearl McCorkle also returns home from Rush Memorial Hospital after convalescing from pneumonia. Mrs Lewis Henderson recovers at home following surgery. Arthur White of Carthage enters Shelbyville Hospital for treatment. Odessa Bieschke improves at a Kentucky hospital from broken ribs and head lacerations. Esta Fenner recovers at home from a recent bedroom fall.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hunt of Greenfield were Sunday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Loyal Hunt. The gathering reflected a cordial family visit with local residents in the Greenfield area.
Ripley Township Trustee Robert E. McKain orders Carthage High School out of the Fall Festival Parade floats citing repeated incidents and embarrassment. He directs the school to stop dismissals for floats next year and make students and parents responsible for actions.
Oliva H. Brown, 49, of Carthage, was found unconscious with heat lacerations and head and chest injuries in a 1957 Plymouth on county road 400S near 800E in Hancock County. A passing motorist alerted sheriff's deputies. Brown had been returning home from Carthage when he lost control in loose gravel and crashed into a tree around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday. He was hospitalized at Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Carthage Garden Club members will be entertained Tuesday November 9 at the home of Mrs. Thomas Bush with Miss Ruth White as co hostesse.
Fletcher Methodist Church in Carthage held Rally Day and Homecoming on Sunday October 31. 164 attended Sunday School at 9 30 am and 10 30 am service with a noon basket dinner. 1 30 pm program featured Rex Edwards and 50 year members Frank Overman Lena Newsom and Mrs Roscoe Brown honored with candy.
Representative John A. Ruby is appointed chairman of the Sub-Committee on Revenue Expenditure Projections. He joins co chair William Sebree as chair of the House Ways and Means Committee and serves on the Senate House Joint Committee on Taxation. The panel organizes five sub committees to coordinate work in major areas. Ruby says the joint committee will improve legislative review of revenue expenditure policy and public finances. The sub committee includes Applegate, Rea, Grills, and Rees.
The Ripley Township Community Center Board elected three new directors for a three year term: Mrs. Dale May, Kenneth Rhodes, and Robert Nigh. Retiring members are Mrs. Clyde Ruby, James Wells, and Albert Ray, with remaining directors named for continuity.
Bill Alexander attended the Indiana Postmaster's Institute held Monday and Tuesday at the Claypool Hotel in Indianapolis. Classes were conducted for all attendees and related postal topics were discussed.
Mr and Mrs Russell Parish spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs Bill Parish at Zionsville during a family gathering.
Carthage High School hosts a PTO membership drive during Open House next week with a 50 cent fee per parent. Directors Tom Shields and Shirley Whitfield handle cards and fees in both grade and high school buildings. The school calendar lists Veterans Day no session and the November 9 Open House with PTO meeting at 8:00 led by district superintendent Dick. National Merit Scholarship entries for 1966-67 are outlined with NMSQT test on March 2 1966 and optional SAT registration steps for Indiana students.
Mr and Mrs C W Gatewood report their son Lt Gatewood completed a solo flight during a month inTraining Squadron One at Pensacola Florida. He continues toward becoming a naval aviator and resides at 908 Medford Avenue with his family.
The Carthage PTO entertained Ripley Two children with an annual masked Halloween party. After a downtown parade, judges named winners such as best clowns David Windsor and Bill Windsor, best ghost Debbie Gray, prettiest Janette Roland, ugliest Deanna Gorman, most original Jay Skinner, and best couple Bill Magee and Brent Magee.
Elvet E Moore of Somerville New Jersey former manager of integrated circuit techniques for Defense Microelectronics at RCA is appointed manager Defense Microelectronics. He will lead development of mono lithic silicon thin film and hybrid circuits with offices in Camden and Somerville New Jersey. Moore a Purdue and UPenn graduate and author lives in Somerville with wife Nancy and four children.
Helen Gray 62 of Mays died at Rush Memorial Hospital after two years of failing health. She was born December 30, 1902, married to Wilbur Gray on August 31, 1923, and leaves a husband, son Donald Gray, and three grandchildren Marilyn Janet and Brian. Funeral services were held Tuesday.
The Carthage chapter 574 O. E. S. marks its 20th anniversary with a Thanksgiving program to be observed Wednesday November 10 at 7 30 p m during the regular stated meeting.
