Five 15 to 18 year old Knightstown youths appeared in Rushville Juvenile Court Saturday after a tractor magneto theft at James McGeorge’s Carthage area farm. They were surprised at 2 a.m. Thursday by Carthage Marshal Hugh Trowbside and State Trooper Walter Love during the alleged loot.

Handley urges continuity of policy as Indiana economy grows

You Dog Henry Feeds Turtle to Chickens in Quirky Tale

Henry Stinger’s hound Hector treed a six and a half pound mud turtle. Henry dressed the animal and found thousands of turtle eggs. He donated the eggs to chickens and disposed of the turtle head in trash where Hector retrieved it and nipped him. Rumor says Henry may market a turtle hound.

Native Carthage Resident Jennie Henley Dies at 97

Jennie O Overman Henley a longtime Carthage resident died Tuesday at Jackson Nursing Home Rushville after two months of serious illness. Born September 7 1869 she was wife of Jesse Henley mother of Mildred Calvert Isa belle Wildman and Eleanor Robinson with five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Services were held at Thompson Funeral Home with Rev Everett Chapman in charge and interment at Riverside Cemetery.

Corn Soybean Field Demonstration At Rush County Farm

About fifty farmers students and leaders attended the Corn Soybean Field at the Phil White farm in Washington township. Purdue agronomist G P Walker discussed corn hybrids and soybean varieties noting Clark as highest yielding but late maturing and Harasay Hawkeye as earlier for soybean followed by wheat. He cited 22 varieties in the plot and 8 to 12 bushels per acre gains from increased planting density. A January booklet will publish five year averages and year yields. the county extension office will distribute it.

The Carthage Blue Raiders host New Salem Eagles on November 2 to begin the 1956-57 Indiana basketball season. Coach Harold Hardin enters practice with nine of ten returning lettermen as Carthage joins the East Central Conference with 17 games plus an open date and a January county tourney set. Indiana 4-H member Neal Kuhn wins trip to National Congress

Neal Kuhn of Rush County Indiana has earned a trip to the National 4 H Club Congress for his achievements in the Dairy Project. Purdue University extension office confirms he is the sole Indiana 4 H member selected for this trip among those honored in various fields. Neal, active nine years in 4 H work, has a strong dairy record plus years in poultry corn soybeans home grounds improvement and swine. He was grand champion showman at the 1955 State Fair and leads the Rush County 4 H Junior Leader Club.
