Soldier on 10 Day Leave From Tokyo Visit Mt Fuji
S-Sgt. and Mrs. Wm. Lockridge stationed in Tokyo report that S-Sgt. Lockridge’s brother Pfc. Charles Lockridge of Camp Wood Japan with the 508th AACT is on a ten day leave with the Lockridges. They toured Mt Fuji and other sights as part of the trip. The Lockridges plan to return to the United States in early November.

Couple Killed By Train In Rush County
Funeral services were held for Dora and husband Brown at the Church of God in Rushville. The couple from Henderson Road were killed Sunday when their car was struck by a B & C double diesel unit three miles west of Rushville. Witnesses say the diesel travelled about 45 mph. skull fractures caused their instant deaths. Survived by a daughter Mrs Karl Floyd and three sons Ivan Brown Robert Lowell Brown and Ronald C Yoder.

The Salvation Army launches its annual appeal beginning Tuesday October 18 in Carthage and Ripley Township with a Kick Off breakfast at the Durbin Hotel in Rushville. William F. Smith chairs the drive. Ripley Township organizers include Fred Parish Carthage business Mrs Elmer Sandefur Carthage residential and Mrs Ruth Musgrove Ripley Township. The county goal is set at 5000 to fund religious and social services in Rush County and strong community support is anticipated.

Woman's Society marks fifteenth anniversary at Fletcher church
The Woman's Society of Christian Service observed its fifteenth anniversary Thursday afternoon at Fletcher Methodist Church with President Mrs. Gladys Mosley and Secretary Mrs. Leone Mosier in charge. Devotions were given by Mrs. Fay Whitfield followed by a lesson from Mrs. Marjorie Overman. The program included organ solo Ivory Palaces by Mrs. Hubert and vocal solo At the Crossroads by Mrs. Anna Lee Lynch. Mary Woodbridge of Warren was welcomed and spoke. Rev. McCoy attended and spoke briefly. History of the Society given by Mrs. Lena Newsom, with charter members presented red rose buds. Refreshments were served by the committee. A supper was announced for later. November meetings to be with Mrs. McCoy.

Pitcher Robert Earl McCorkle threw a seven inning no hitter with seven walks to cap his praised career. The Indiana Department of Conservation announced the duck and goose hunting season runs Oct 22 to Dec 30, 1955. Willow Slough near Morocco, Cagles Mill Lake near Cloverdale, and Hovey Lake will host hunts with 48 duck blinds and 20 goose pits at Willow Slough. Shooting hours are one half hour before sunrise to sunset. ducks bag limit four with up to two wood ducks or hooded mergansers and eight in possession after two days. Geese bag five with up to two Canada or white fronted geese, or one of each. Coots bag ten. Migratory waterfowl hunters 16+ must obtain a duck stamp from the Post Office and attach it to their license.

Grace V. Drake died at 3 20 p m Wednesday at her nephew Robert Moore's home after a stroke and extended illness. Born in Hamilton Ohio she was daughter of William H Sharer and Phila. She married Edwin L. Drake in 1908 who preceded her in death. She worked at the local post office and Masonic Home in Franklin Indiana. Survivors include a sister two nieces and three nephews. Funeral services set for 10 30 a m Friday at Thompson Funeral Home Carthage with Rev Basil Stultz officiating. Interment in Glencove Cemetery Knights Town.
