Mrs. Jesse Henley entered the Jackson Nursing Home in Rushville on Tuesday after a period of poor health. She had been staying with her daughter Mrs. Donald Calvert in Maumee Ohio prior to admission.
Hazel Alexander Norma Mc Kain and Bertha Beck attended the district meeting at Daleville Legion Post Tuesday Bertha Beck presided at the meeting and Hazel Alexander and Norma Mc Kain were among the attendees.
The local Auto License Branch will be closed all day Friday October 12 in observance of Columbus Day. It will reopen and operate as usual on Saturday with standard hours.
Mrs. Fred White plans to travel Saturday to Wilmington Ohio to participate in the national Conference of the United Society of Friends Women.
The Carthage Parent Teachers Association met at the Community Center on Tuesday. The Fall Festival project committee reported a profit of 105.35 on the PTA food and flower sale. Committees were appointed for the annual Halloween party and a film titled How Our Children Learn was shown.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Sandefur returned from a weeklong trip through twelve western states visiting friends in Phoenix Arizona where they met Mr and Mrs Norman Leisure and family formerly of Tommie's Service. They visited Mr and Mrs Arnold Ray in Tucson Mr and Mrs Fred Sohn in Elmore California Mr and Mrs Donald Mann and son of Lucerne California and Dr and Mrs Clair Maple Jr of Ames Iowa. They toured the Grand Canyon and the Mission at Capistrano California.
Rex Thompson was arrested by Marshal Hugh Trowbridge Sunday night while trying to enter a Market street home. He was taken before Mayor William Marshall of Rushville, fined $10 and costs, and sentenced to 120 days at Putnamville.
Walnut Ridge Friends meeting near Carthage invites all to homecoming Sunday October 14. Sunday school at 9 30 a m worship at 10 30 a m with Pastor Louis Barrett delivering the morning message. Basket dinner at noon. Former Ridge pastor Harry Reese will speak at 2 00 p m.
Donald Cook writes his mother about Boot heel territory in southeast Missouri and travels into Arkansas. He describes cotton presses in Arkansas holding about 200000 bales valued at 25 to 30 million dollars, the cotton gin process, and a bale fire fought with kerosene due to smoldering cotton.
The Carthage Auxiliary float was omitted from last week's festival writeup. The yearly entry used the theme What We Fought For a patriotic float. The Editors apologize for the oversight.

William E. Gatewood died after a stroke on October 5 at Rush Memorial hospital. He was born December 28, 1872 in Shelby County, moved to Henderson in 1896, then to Carthage in 1927. Survivors include widow Lula, daughters Marie Aker and Mary Elizabeth Moore, sons Charles W. and William O. Gatewood, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with Rev. Robert A. Shockney. burial in East Hill Cemetery Arlington.
The Junior Choir of Fletcher Methodist church held a wiener roast in Stinger's grove near Carthage with nineteen members Rev C L Davis and family and several others attending. Ripley Home Makers plan a October 18 meeting at Mrs Helen Ruby's home with devotions and a furniture selection lesson. Tommy Pearson is ill with tonsillitis and miss school. Mr and Mrs Grant Henley show slow recovery.
Ertle Price was re elected president of the Rush County Agricultural Association for the coming year at the annual meeting. John White Harold Clifton Jr and Gail Abernathy were re elected to key posts. Sixteen directors were re elected for three year terms and nine new directors were chosen for three year terms. The board backed Worth Hudson for State Fair Board Director with election set for October 24 at the Rush County courthouse.
Indiana state parks expect large crowds to view fall foliage across the system. Park locations such as Turkey Run The Shades McCormick's Creek and Brown County State Parks are forecast to peak October 12 to 15 with Versailles Clifty Falls and Spring Mill following the weekend after for a grand finale. Indiana Conservation Director Harley G Hook invites Hoosiers and visitors to enjoy the color show in the state parks and forests.

Chester A Meal, Rush County farmer and Rural Electric official, died Sunday at Major hospital in Shelbyville at age 60. He led Rush County and Indiana Rural Electric co operatives, judged corn and swine, and served in World War I. Funeral held 2 30 p m at Carmony Funeral Home in Shelbyville with burial at Moscow cemetery.
Governor George N. Craig announced October 13 as Ike Day in Indiana. The proclamation urges statewide birthday tributes to President Eisenhower, with scrolls signed by Hoosiers and cake distributions planned for charity. Caldwell and other officials note nationwide observances and TV appearances.
The Junior Ike Club announced by Mrs. Von L Snyder aims to involve high school youths in the election campaign. Mr and Mrs Russell Roland entertained numerous relatives Sunday to honor Pfe and Mrs Charles Roland and daughter Marita of St Leonard Wood Missouri and Spe 3rd Class and Mrs George Roland of Clarksville Tennessee.
