Community jeweler dies after heart attack in Carthage
Royce H. Joseph 34 a Carthage jeweler and auto license branch manager died at his home after a garage fire incident. He was born January 27 1925 in Paris Crossing Jennings County and survived by wife Mary Bledsoe and son Michael. He moved to Carthage in 1949 opened Carthage Jewelry Store chaired East Street Christian Church Sunday School and was active in Republican politics. Burial at Vernon Cemetery followed Masonic rites.

Fire consumes Thomas E Bush Garage in quick blaze
Fire broke out Saturday before 9 am destroying the Thomas E Bush Garage operated by James Ellis. Sparks from a welding torch ignited leaking gasoline causing a rapid spread, destroying two cars a Studebaker and a truck tractor, plus tools and office area while neighboring towns fought the blaze. Officials awaited insurance adjusters reports.

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Hampton Mortuary for Mrs. Lillian Ala fair Porter age 67 of Carthage. Rev. Skateland Roller Rink owned by Mr. and Mrs. Odell Pitts of Carthage opens Tuesday night October 13. Located a mile and a half north on Knightstown Pike it features a 50 by 130 foot facility with rest rooms concession bleachers and skate rentals. Public hours are Tuesday Thursday Saturday and Sunday 7 to 10 p.m. Monday Wednesday Friday reserved for private parties. Sunday shows 2 to 5 p.m. An Adult Skating Club preview is planned Monday night with tickets 50 cents. Grand opening dates will be announced later.
