Lillian Alatair Porter 67 of Carthage died suddenly Tuesday at 2 p m at the Muncie Clinic Indiana. Born September 5 1892 in Lewis County Kentucky she was married December 24 1910 and affiliated with the Methodist Church. Survivors include Thurman Porter husband three sons Curtis Porter and Thurman Porter Jr both Army Air Corps and Albert McClurg of Eaton Indiana three daughters Stella Loveaul Vera Rucker and Ruby Campbell all of Carthage thirty one grandchildren nine great grandchildren three brothers Harry Dennis Moore of Columbus Ohio John Moore of Shelbyville and sister Nora Orell of Indianapolis. Rev Robert Shockney of Lynn Indiana will conduct services with burial in Town Cemetery.

The 1959 Fall Festival kicked off with large crowds at the Smorgasbord in the Center basement. The Garden Club Flower Show occurred earlier, while a Conservation Club Euchre Party drew attendees. A full three day schedule followed with food stands, a band concert by Carthage Band, a talent show, contests for children, a fish fry, rides, a parade, band and coin displays, cake walk, festival dance, queen contest, and window displays across Carthage.
