Death of Marshall James Moore in Arlington
Marshall James Moore 81 died at his Arlington home Thursday morning after an eight day illness. Born in Rush County he lived near Arlington most of his life and is survived by two daughters, five sons, a brother and 15 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with Revs. Buck and Farr officiating. Burial in East Hill cemetery, Arlington.

A musical program plus township history and pioneer family reports were presented. This launch marks the first program in the township series. Excise Officers In Carthage Raid Three Fined
State excise police raided two Carthage locations Sunday and three people including a man and his wife were fined in Rushville Justice Court for illegal sale and possession of alcohol. Walter Howard Dee Gribbons and Marie Gribbons each paid fines and costs. Seized were five pints and four half pints of whisky and 40 beer cans at the Howard lunch room and two pints of whisky at the Gribbons residence.

Escape Serious Injury In Car Wreck Saturday
Fred Magee and Sherman Dye escaped serious injuries last Saturday afternoon when a Buick driven by Magee left the road, crashed through a fence, and overturned. Magee suffered a wrenched back and a deep forehead cut. Dye was knocked out briefly but later reported okay. Both were treated at Hancock County Hospital in Greenfield. Magee’s car was badly damaged. the cause was attributed to another car crowding the northbound vehicle, though not confirmed.

The eighth annual Fall Festival in Carthage runs Friday and Saturday October 3 and 4 with 29 local organizations backing the program. Highlights include a Friday night home talent show at the auditorium with tickets at 50 cents adults 25 cents children, a Saturday parade, a cake walk, a circus themed show with real animals, can can dancers and Lions Club acts, plus a Misses Graff Kinder and Small electing a King and Queen. The Lions serve meals at Tweedy Memorial Center and a double dinner challenge offers a free meal if both dinners are eaten. Transportation, volunteers, and multiple booths will color the event, supported by Container Corporation of America and Kappa Kappa Sigma.

Carthage hosted the National Treeing Walker Association Field Trials over September 27 and 28 at the Carl Hogle farm, drawing about 1,200 attendees for three sessions.
