S-Sgt William Lockridge husband of Shirley Nelson has been discharged from four years of active duty after 18 months in Tokyo. He returns to Muncie to resume work at Warner Gear and resides in Carthage with the Elders while relocating.
Pvt Charles Roland of the 6th Armored Division at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri plays for the Fifth Army basketball squad, defending champions. He was injured last week with a fractured ankle in practice after starring at Carthage High School from 1949 to 1952.
Mr. Demus Manuel returned Sunday from the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis to the home of his son, Lloyd Manuel, and family in Carthage. Mr. Manuel is showing improvement, Billy Mann and Miss Annis Mc Daniel have returned to their homes after tonsillectomy last week in Rush Memorial.
A free will supper event is offered at Charlottesville Methodist Church on December 1 from 5:30 to 8:00 PM. Funds support church activities with a donation requested.
The Carthage Citizen announces a Methodist Church bazaar at its office on Friday and Saturday November 25th and 26th. A nice assortment of Christmas gifts will be available for purchase.

It blends a reflective youth piece by Wilma Hall with essays on gratitude, local church history, and a look at Rush County College Day with student activities. It includes jokes and gossip notes about seniors and school events.
The Ripley Conservation Club held a Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot at Twin Silo Farm last Sunday. Winners include Ollie Clay Blackie Howard Bill Loveall Tubby Henley Leon Whitfield Fred Howard Bob Stevens Gene Reddick Bob White Kenneth Whitfield Gary McClurg and John Woods with teams Ralph Little Jim Miller John White Hugh Trowbridge and Gene Reddick also earning turkeys.
Rush County poultry raisers are invited to attend the annual poultry extension school on Monday at 7 30 p m in the courthouse assembly room. Purdue poultry specialist Robert Hogue discusses the new Indiana egg law effective February and egg grade labeling for retailers. Lloyd Mullet covers Egg Marketing and Egg Outlook with Q A time follows. Refreshments provided by local poultry boosters and hatcheries. Orville Wessell presides. John Posey leads group singing. Miss Sue Ann Truitt is conducting practice teaching in New Castle this week. The assignment highlights student teaching experience and the local education program involvement of Truitt.
Henry J. Stinger spoke at the Greenfield Lions Club dinner meeting in Riley Park shelter house Monday night. The father and son affair drew good attendance as he displayed his mechanical banks and side arms.
For one week beginning November 26 the Carthage Library will host a table to receive overdue books and magazines. No charges or questions will be asked.
The Golden Dawn Farm of Ripley Township won multiple ribbons at the Bourbon Beef Show in Louisville Kentucky. Heavyweight steers over 1150 pounds placed third with the champion and reserve champion finishing first and second in the class. A pen of three weighed third, a lightweight under 950 pounds placed fourth, and a medium weight steer 950 to 1050 pounds placed fifth. The show offers $10 000 in prize money and requires distiller by products in the feed. Judge Louis Peggs of Rush County and Indianapolis Livestock Market was among the judges. The Golden Dawn farm has exhibited at the event for several years.
Joe Lower was elected chair of the Rush County Rural-Urban committee at the annual meeting in the courthouse. Lois Lafuse was chosen vice chair and Mrs. Helen Morgan secretary treasurer. The group unites city and rural members including Farm Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Kiwanis, Legion, VFW and others to improve community relations and development. In the past year the council promoted fire prevention and aided volunteer firemen and the city rural youth exchange program. The executive committee will meet soon to plan activities for the coming year.
Mr and Mrs Edward Fenner were Sunday guests of Mrs Fenner s brother Robert As kren and family at Lawrence. Miss Phyllis Hull was a Sunday guest of Mr and Mrs Russell Ro land and family. Pete Ballard has gone to his home in Roanoke Va for the Thanksgiving holidays. Mr and Mrs Roy Stanley and family and Joan Sharp attended the wedding of Mrs Stanley s niece Martha Skaggs at Ander son Sunday afternoon.
Carthage Blue Raiders defeated Mays 86 to 24 on Tuesday night on the local court setting a team scoring record. Bill Parish led with 28 points followed by McClurg 19 and Sonny Smith 17 as Carthage dominated with 84 rebounds to Mays 14. Butch Bramel nailed a late field goal to extend the margin after a Mays rally.
Indiana outlines participation in Safe Driving Day proclaimed by President Eisenhower for December 1. Intensive statewide educational activities run December 1 to December 10 with mayors and sheriffs coordinating local events. Over 200,000 Eisenhower safe driving appeals will be distributed by State Police and driver license examiners. State Police will run 12 hour shifts starting midnight November 50 with focus on night time violations causing accidents.
Rush County Rural Youth Club installed 1956 officers at a November 15 dinner at the Durbin Hotel Rushville with Robert E. White of Carthage presiding. Officers named were Walter Osting president Walter Graham vice president Mary Kay Morgan secretary treasurer Hugh Miller recreation leader Pauline Siefert publicity chairman and Melvin McDaniel devotional leader. Plans announced for a December 20 Christmas party before a Teen Canteen dance.
Thirty-one students from Rush County are enrolled at Indiana University this fall per University Registrar C. E. Harrell. The university reports 13,489 full time students and 5,898 in off campus centers for a total of 19,387. In the Rush County list, Carthage names include David Magee and Sue Ann Truitt. Rushville lists Richard Bradley and Jerry Cartmel among others.
Mrs. Julia McMichael and Mrs. Ruth Harrellson visited Shelbyville Friday and called on Mrs. James Harper in Manilla. The group attended a turkey supper at the Arlington school building in the evening. Miss Hazel Kuetemeier and her mother, Mrs. Barron, were Saturday evening supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Noah Leisure.
London Tice 53 of Carthage seriously injured in a two car collision on US 40 near Philadelphia in Greenfield Indiana. He suffered lacerations and chest injuries and is hospitalized. Verne H Suter 56 of Indianapolis was driving. his condition listed as critical. Mrs Lena Morgan 27 of New Castle also badly injured. State Trooper Carroll Mohr said reckless driving charges would be filed against Mrs Morgan.
A 60 year old Gwynneville Elevator was destroyed by fire after a lightning strike during an early morning storm. Fire crews from Arlington Carthage Manilla and Morristown fought the blaze which began around 6 45 am causing $100 000 in damage and toppling part of the frame onto a B and O Railroad box car. The owner is W D Springer of Indianapolis.
