After a large turnout on November 8, the Ripley Township Conservation Club sponsors another turkey shoot at Howard Leisure Farm south of Carthage next Sunday November 22. Ammunition provided, event begins at noon with turkeys as prizes.
Mr and Mrs Jack Tweedy attended Homecoming and the Indiana Michigan football game at Indiana University on Saturday.
Paul Clevidence checked into Rush Memorial Hospital on Monday for observation. Raymond Kennedy remains at home for several weeks due to a blood clot in his leg.
The Better Business Association of Carthage will give away several turkeys this Saturday November 21 at 8 p m. Ticket holders must be present in the downtown area to receive a turkey.
Citizens wishing a special 1960 plate must reserve their plate numbers at the Carthage License Bureau by December 15. The notice urges timely action for accuracy and issuance.
The Carthage Band Boosters organization sponsors a midnight skating party on Friday November 27 from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Skateland. All are welcome and band members are selling tickets.
Revival services begin Tuesday November 24 at 7 30 p m at the Wesleyan Methodist Church with evangelist Rev James McClain of Marion directing. Rev Everett Smalley and Mrs Smalley of Shirley will lead music and special numbers. The public is invited.
The Tuberculosis Association has mailed Christmas Seals across Rush County to fund chest clinics and other needs. Proceeds support monthly clinics and a dozen programs. Mrs Louise Pike is Ripley Township chairman.
Kenneth E. Smith aged 23 of Knights town and Virginia Grizzell aged 20 of Carthage obtained a marriage license. Smith works in construction and Grizzell is a housewife.
Ben Neal of Carthage returned home last Thursday after a month away with a three week stay in California visiting relatives in Stockton and Renton Washington. He traveled by jet from Chicago to San Francisco with his wife and companions.
The American Legion held a regular meeting led by Commander Bill Alexander. Adjutant Gary Stewart read the previous minutes and a clean-up of the Legion Home rooms was scheduled. Social committee members Frank Hampton and Eugene R. Gardner served refreshments to sixteen attendees.
The paper asks readers with lapsed subscriptions to check their name at the top of the paper and renew promptly if the date has passed, warning that accounts are in arrears and renewals are needed soon.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Moore entertained as their house guests over the weekend, Mr and Mrs Sheldon Winner of Circleville Ohio attended guests enjoyed the visit and friendship.
Carl Brekken a graduate of Anderson High School 1934 and Manchester College 1946 arrives after Army service and sixteen years teaching. He and his wife a fellow teacher live in Connersville with two sons aged nine and ten. He comes from Glenwood School and plays trumpet with an interest in fishing and ceramics.
Mr and Mrs Max Joseph of North Vernon were Sunday guests of Mrs Royce Joseph and her son, sharing a quiet afternoon at the household.
Mary Jane Blankenship Cathy Ruby Linda and Judy Harrold Beth Roberts and Judy Kennedy led about 60 Jr 4H leaders on a Sunday tour of the WFBM TV studio guided by Harry Martin. The group then viewed the Holiday On Ice revue at the coliseum en route to Indianapolis from Rushville with a dinner stop at Buckley s in Cumberland.

Attendees included Mr and Mrs Parvel Moore Mr and Mrs Howard Henley Mr and Mrs Hubert Hunt Mr and Mrs Frank Hampton Mr and Mrs William Fred Magee Mr and Mrs Ed Carroll Mr and Mrs Harold Dixon Mr and Mrs Bob Winters and Gene Silver and his fiancée Quelda Mae Stacey of Knightstown. Mrs Howard Henley spoke about the Europe trip she and her husband recently took.
Unharvested corn in Lafayette Indiana shows 25 to 27 percent moisture. Purdue agronomists warn storage above 20.5 percent is unsafe and outline options including field drying, fan drying, grain banks, batch dryers, airtight silos, and plastic-lined steel bins.
Cash receipts from crops fell to 341 million in 1958, the lowest in eight years, while livestock and products rose to 748 million the largest since 1951. Hogs provided 291 million, 26 percent of total, cattle 203 million, 18 percent, and dairy 126 million, 11 percent. Soybeans and poultry shifted rankings as corn dropped to sixth.

Ralph McClurg, a timber cutter, was seriously injured Monday afternoon when a tree fell on him in a woods near Dublin. He crawled to his truck and drove to Dunreith before flagging a state police car. He was taken by ambulance to Rush Memorial Hospital with broken ribs, crushed back vertebrae, and internal injuries, then transferred to Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis for further treatment.
County Agent C L Spuller urges Rush County farmers with seed to sell or sow next spring to test seed this fall or early winter. He offers instructions, sample envelopes, and a free Purdue State Seed Laboratory test, plus information on seed matters.
Union Thanksgiving services at Fletcher Methodist Church November 25 at 7 30 p m feature Reverend Herman Parker from Carthage Friends Church and a combined choir. A rehearsal is set for November 22 at 2 00 p m at the same church with all parishioners invited to sing. The service promotes Christian Rural Overseas Program sharing abundance to fund shipping U S surplus commodities overseas. Six local churches join in the observance with host Reverend Paul Mayfield and others from Walnut Ridge Friends and East Street Christian churches assisting.
Warren Phelps son of Mrs Norrene Phelps and Harold Phelps was honored by the New Castle Optimist Club as an outstanding teenager. A senior at New Castle High School he stands 6 feet 5 inches, played last year on the Trojan team and is active in church youth work and student council. He also chairs Proper Driving and runs cross country while keeping high grades. The Optimist Club highlights his leadership and character, urging citizens to celebrate New Castle’s young people.

About 150 people including 40 children and guests attended a turkey dinner at the Tweedy Memorial Center hosted by the Ripley Two Farm Bureau. Cecil Pike presided, Lois Ruth Shields and Jerry Montgomery presented 4 H pins, and Linda Harrold demonstrated making a cherry pie. Roy Herkless, a 40 year member, was recognized for a later pin.
William L. Miller of Terre Haute route 4 Vigo county won the 1959 State Soil Conservation contest announced by Purdue extension soil conservationist Charles McKee. Miller on a 166acre farm in central Indiana earned top honors with erosion control and drainage projects.
