Carthage Brotherhood and Sisterhood will meet Monday night November 20 at 7 30 at the Community Center. Officers for the coming year will be nominated then and elected by ballot at the December meeting. Members approved extending the mileage limit from twenty five to forty miles for new members. Attendance urged.
Seaman Thomas A. Roberts of New York spent Veterans' Day weekend with his wife and relatives. Sunday evening his wife, his mother Mrs. Hazel Roberts, and Virginia Stearns accompanied him to the airport where he left by plane for New York. He is assigned to the ship U S Constellation in port there.
The Carthage Boy Scouts of Troop 129 will hold a court of honor this Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Community Center. The event recognizes advancement in Scout work and the public is invited to attend.
The address records show AB Orba Fitch has entered the Air Force with serial number 167215267 in PLT 1725, Box 1506, Lackland AF Base, Texas.
A songfest is planned at Fletcher Methodist Church for Sunday at 7 15 p m with several special numbers. Light refreshments will follow in the church annex after the program.
A singspiration is planned at Carthage Walnut Ridge Church on Sunday November 19 at 7 30 p m. The event invites all residents to attend and join in the program.
Peace Corps examinations will be held in Indianapolis at 8 30 a m on November 28 29 1961 for local applicants. Postmaster Alexander was informed today. Peace Corps posters with details will be displayed in the local post office bulletin boards.
Mrs. Sharon Hunt returns home Monday from Hancock County Hospital Greenfield after undergoing major surgery last Wednesday.

The M. Y. F. held a wiener roast on November 11 at Roy Stanley’s barn with 16 attendees. They played rhythm and other games and thank Roy Stanley for the use of his barn, reported by Diana Whitfield.
The Methodist Friendship Class will meet at 7 30 p m on Tuesday November 14 at the church. Election of officers will be held. Hostesses will be Mr and Mrs Carl Carson Sr and Mrs Ralph Moore.
A published report on the Community Center Board of Directors meeting misstated a $987.00 expense. The item was for painting the south and east brick walls to fix loose mortar, not a generic painting cost.
The annual Lions Club Broom Sale continues with sales at homes or through club members. If you need a broom, contact a Lions member or wait for a home visit to purchase.

A capacity crowd watched Knightstown Panthers defeat Carthage 63 to 58 in the opening game. Chase and Stearns led Knightstown with 17 and 18 points while Jordan tallied 17 for Carthage. Carthage’s bench fell 39 17 in the curtain-raiser. fouls and free throw woes hurt the locals.
Widow receives her benefits and her disabled daughter’s benefits continue after the widow’s death. The daughter will not receive the widow’s benefits, both are paid on the deceased husband’s earnings record. Payee for the daughter’s checks should be arranged.
The Carthage High School newsletter highlights student activities including band invitations to Butler and Veterans Day parade participation in Indianapolis. Seniors thank contributors after a chicken and noodle supper, start selling book covers, and seniors’ letters share notes and humor.
Mr and Mrs Charles Elmore attended the Hobby Show Wednesday evening at the Indianapolis Coliseum. Myron Trowbridge and his mother Mrs Hugh Trowbridge were business visitors in Indianapolis Saturday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Rex Edwards and son Jeff were Monday evening dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Bill Robertson at Greenfield. Robertsons recently moved from Rushville to Greenfield and bought property. Sunday guests of Mr and Mrs Nelson Cook included Mrs Freida Clutter of near Greenfield and her son Gary Clutter of Indianapolis with Mr and Mrs Everette Hawkins. Mr and Mrs Oliver Earnest visited Mrs Perry Unger near Fountaintown Sunday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Lowell Brown and children were Sunday visitors of Mr and Mrs William Yoder and daughters at Richmond.
Walnut Ridge Friends schedule a revival from Friday November 24 to Sunday December 3 with Raymond Huddle from Marion College as speaker. Services start 7 30 each night with local music and a converted accordionist from Marion College. Also a Sing Spiration on Sunday November 19 featuring local and visiting talent. Pastor Timothy Straub invites all to attend.

Mr and Mrs Charles Whitfield and Gary Clayton attend Purdue Michigan State in Lafayette while Indiana families visit relatives in Rushville Bloomington and Dugger. Weekend guests include the Norvells from Hagerstown and Shelbyville and extended family from Indianapolis Anderson and New Albany.
Fishing in the region shows better results than last week with Large and Smallmouth Bass taken from Flat Rock and Driftwood Rivers using surface baits. Catfish are common, and overall fishing improves across East Fork White River. Hindustan Falls and White River report clear water and good catches of Perch Crappies Smallmouth Bass and Channel Cat. In central Indiana Morse Geist Sugar Creek Raccoon report clear water and solid Crappie and Channel Cat action, while White River is murky with carp. Northeastern Indiana sees few anglers with crappie and bluegill catches. a 742 lb Walleyed Pike was reported in St. Joe River DeKalb County. Northwestern Indiana reports clear lakes and streams with Catfish Bluegill Crappie Smallmouth Bass Northern Pike and Goggle Eye. St. Joe River at South Bend clear. Lake Freeman and Shafer fair with some catfish on cheese bait and shad.
TOM GALLMEYER reports that Governor Matthew E. Welsh faces sharp accusations from a critic who says Welsh abandoned no tax increase pledges, slowed highway projects, and increased state payroll costs. The piece cites past campaign promises on mental health and a delayed penal institution, asserting partisan obstruction and mismanagement.
The Carthage Lions Club marked its 20th anniversary with a Monday night dinner at the Lions Den Community Center. Toastmaster Parvel Moore recalled the club’s milestones and highlighted projects including Christmas baskets, flowers for shut ins, street signs, house numbers, and conservation fund drives. Special guests and officers attended as Lion A Garland Hardy from Muncie spoke on the sense of humor theme.
The Knightstown Panthers opened the 1961-62 season strong by defeating Carthage 68-58 in the varsity game. The Panther reserves handled Carthage 39-17, with Chase scoring four of five third quarter shots to pull away. Gatewood fouled out early, hampering Carthage’s defense as errors and fouls plagued both sides.
