James Webb and Everett Webb returned to Carthage Sunday after a several day car trip to California and various points of interest in the state.
Eugene Mlekush of Carthage underwent major surgery Monday at St. Marys Hospital Rochester Minnesota. His address is 2nd floor.
Mrs. Lyle O Plank of Carthage attended a tea sponsored by Indiana Lutheran churches at the Governor's Mansion Tuesday afternoon. Proceeds aid the Luther Wood School for Children. The Governor's wife greeted attendees, with Greenfield guests including Mrs. Lee A Butz Mrs. Herbert Krammer Mrs. Donald Kingan Mrs. James Potts Mrs. Richard Troutman and Mrs. Burnam.
Around fifty guests attended a cooperative dinner after Sunday services to welcome Rev. and Mrs. Gene Lewis and their baby from Indianapolis. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wolfe and son Joe, Mary Maderis of Hammond, Rev. Everett Chapman of Greenfield, Mrs. Mary Nelson and Ada Chappell of Arlington. A musical program followed with performances by Joe Wolfe, Mary Maderis, Mrs. A. J. Carr, and the Junior Choir.
Mrs. Robert White and Mrs. Henry Stager attended the pledging of Alpha Delta, a new Kappa Kappa Sigma chapter in Marion Indiana, on Sunday November 5th in the Colonial Room Spencer Hotel. Installation into the National Council will occur Sunday December 3rd with Carthage chapter officers present.
Adults and youth from Carthage East Street Christian Church attended the 10th District Convention of Christian churches in Brookville Indiana. Attendees included Forrest and Mrs. Moore, George and Mrs. Moore, Lesta Heifner, and CYF members Arlene Ruby Sally Bash and Jeanie Stapp. Rev Robert Kendall served as District Youth Director and Robert McKain as CYF group leader.
Bill Todd returned home from Ball Memorial Hospital Muncie and Henry County Hospital after two weeks, with the Todd family residing with Mrs. Clayton Todd. John Allen Ruby convalesces at Robert Hospital Indianapolis for a broken ankle and leg injuries from an auto crash. Sam Nigh of Carthage remains at Rush Memorial Hospital room 142 for observation and treatment. Mrs. John Tice of R R 2 Carthage entered Rush Memorial Hospital this week. John R. Stevens returned home from a nine day Rush Memorial Hospital stay.
Mr and Mrs James Ellis attended the University Brass Choir recital at Butler University where their daughter Carol Ellis joined James Ellis Jr as a member. The event took place Monday evening at the Odeon Theatre on campus.
Carthage High School seniors stage The Ghost of Gobbler's Knob written by Will Charles of Oxford Ohio on November 2 and 3 1961. Play directed by Mrs Mills praised for its strong effort with stage manager Jim Gorman and associates Homer Mahan and Carl Davis. About 600 attendees and thanks to all connected.
The Indiana State Highway Commission reports Interstate 70 route approval by the Federal Bureau of Public Roads. Hearings are set for November in Clay and Putnam counties on the Terre Haute to Indianapolis segment. A 7 mile Richmond section near the Ohio line opened in September as about 125 miles of I 70 are now open in Indiana.
Seven girls from the Freshman Home Economics class led by Mrs. Odessa Bieschke hosted a semi formal tea on Thursday November 2 from 5 30 to 6 30 pm. Faculty trustees and the girls parents attended about 450 guests.
The Lions Club founded in 1942 marks its twentieth year with a Ladies Night dinner on Monday November 13. Invitations go to former charter members district officials and surrounding clubs. Speaker is Lion A Garland Hardy Past International Director from Ball State Teachers College Muncie Ind.
The period November 1 to November 20 is set for surface mailed Christmas parcels to overseas armed forces. Airmail is December 1 to 10. Greeting cards should fit parcel windows to ensure delivery before Christmas. Overseas personnel include armed forces members families and authorized civilians. Mail may go through APOs in New York San Francisco Seattle Fleet Post Office or Navy Post Office c o Postmaster Seattle. Postmaster William Alexander urges customers to ask at the Post Office about packaging.

The Community-Betterment Association, formed a year ago to acquire and dispose of the Black Bear Tavern property, voted to dissolve after completing its original purpose and several other projects. Final funds disbursement was approved, with a financial report noting donations and a $2,898.29 sale of property to Cecil. Parvel Moore, president, thanked participants for their role and noted local changes left the community satisfied.
The Tweedy Memorial Community Center Association held its regular monthly meeting Tuesday at 7 30 p m with directors Howard Windsor chairman William Alexander Lewis Lafuse Lloyd Manuel Mrs George McNabb and James Webb present Fred Parish the new president presided. Minutes from October were read and accepted along with the treasurer and Fall Festival reports. Fall Festival bills totaling 415 70 were approved. Old business noted the south and east brick walls were painted at 987 00 completed in October and committees were formed to obtain estimates on bricking up two south first floor windows and to advance insulation plans between the third floor and roof. Secretary was asked to prepare by laws copies for members and post a permanent copy for public view. Meeting adjourned with next session set for Tuesday December 5 1961.
The Community Center Finance Committee reports net receipts of 2433.30 with furnace and other accounts totaling 3893.04. Donations list numerous individuals and organizations, while projects include cookie sales bulletins and raffles. expenses cover bands, papers, and services, with furnace fund gifts from multiple contributors.
The Carthage Better Business Association gathered Tuesday at Geise's Restaurant for its regular noon session. Clyde Seboseal led, with Mrs. Clyde Ruby presenting the secretary and treasurer reports. A Thanksgiving drawing for four turkeys and four hens was announced for Saturday night at 7 p.m. Hubert Hunt to oversee downtown Christmas lights. Winters and Hunt named to organize ladies night and December dinner. Nominating committee report also discussed.
Howard C. Parker of Button Willow California passed away Monday November 6 from a heart condition. A Walnut Ridge native and Carthage Schools graduate class of 1903 he later returned to California to work in banking with his sons George and Robert Parker. Surviving are three sons George Robert and John all in California and his widow Mary Parker. Funeral services were held Thursday with burial at Whittier.
Orba Fitch son of Mr and Mrs Unn Fitch enlisted in the Air Force and left Monday for Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. On Monday Staff Sgt Glen Fitch, the couple's son, telephoned his wife and parents from Germany in Carthage.
Mr and Mrs Robert West are the parents of a 6 lb 6 oz daughter named Teanna Faye born November 5 at Rush Memorial Hospital. Grandparents are Rev and Mrs Cecil West and Mr and Mrs Norman Jones of Carthage.
Mrs Odessa Bieschke Carthage Home Economics teacher accompanied Miss Linda Harrold and Miss Sue Leisure to the Jr Leaders 4H Club meeting in Rushville Monday night On Thursday night November 9 Mrs Bieschke attended a 4H Adult Leaders banquet at the same event location
