Major Curtis J Porter Awarded Bronze Star

Word has been received that Major Curtis J Porter earned the Bronze Star for service in Viet Nam. He returned to the states late in August and is attending Instructors School for six weeks before teaching at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama. The Porter family lives at 1125 Buckingham Drive Montgomery Alabama. Major Thurman Porter Jr of Colorado Springs recently visited the family in Alabama during a trip to New Orleans.

Mrs. Trowbridge Dies at 77 in Rushville

Tessie I. Trowbridge 77 of Rushville died at Hillside Haven Nursing Home at 5 p.m. Wednesday after long illness. Born December 22, 1887 in Rush County, she was the widow of Thomas Trowbridge. Survived by son Hugh L. of Carthage and several other relatives. Funeral at Moster Funeral Home Rushville Saturday at 2 p.m. with burial East Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today.

Raiders Lose Opening Game At Southwestern Shelby Co

The Carthage Raiders opened the season with a 76 to 46 loss after a slow start. Southwestern pressed from the start and built a 30 to 10 first quarter lead as they shot well and controlled the game. The Carthage B team also fell 40 to 32 to Southwestern’s second squad.

P. T. C. Holds Regular Meeting

The P. T. C. held an open house with parents and relatives in their rooms. A Christmas music program was announced for December 21 at the school under music instructors Mr. Bob Edwards and Mrs. Land. World Community Day Draws Rush County Attendees

About one hundred women from Rush County attended World Community Day at Carthage East St. Christian Church with a 10:15 registration. Rev. Bertha Hardy opened with an invocation and Mrs. Howard Jacquess led the opening hymn. The event featured church group drama, gift dedication, a luncheon, a music number by Mr. and Mrs. Russell Nigh, and a keynote by Dr. H L Lanahan on Lallys Mission in World Affairs, with multiple area churches represented.

Rites Held For Gun Victim In Rushville

Mrs. Marjorie F. Smith age 36 died after being shot in the abdomen while in a car near Jaggers Tavern in Rushville. Her husband Raymond Smith 54 is jailed and the grand jury will hear charges. Norman Sharpe 37 died at the hospital. Services were held at Moster and Sons Mortuary with burial in East Hill Cemetery.

Real estate sales in Rush County top half a million in October

In October 1965 Rush County real estate sales reached about 521600, the third monthly high this year. Farm deals totaled 197000, non farm deals 277600, with city sales 46800 including a 15000 largest transaction and several non farm deals including a 130060 factory sale. Transfers include multiple Carthage parcels between residents and guardians and estate actions.
