Local man in critical condition after heart attack

Dennis M. Jones of Philadelphia Ind former Rushville and Milroy resident is listed in critical condition at St Vincent Hospital Indianapolis after a heart attack suffered while visiting his brother Earl Jones near Greensburg. His wife Mrs Jones formerly worked as a linotype operator at the Citizen Office. Mr and Mrs John A Jackson of Carthage welcomed a son born October 30 1961 at Rush Memorial Hospital.

State African Violet Convention Attends Indianapolis

Mrs. Loyal Hunt and Mrs. Albert Ray attended the State African Violet Convention all day Saturday at the Severin Hotel in Indianapolis. A luncheon was held at noon followed with a business meeting and evening banquet.

John R. Stevens was admitted for observation and treatment at Rush Memorial Hospital this week. Joyce Rhoades was discharged to home from Rush Memorial Hospital on Tuesday.

Communi ty Center Board elects new officers and directors

Three new officers Fred Parish Frank Hampton and Mrs Kenneth Rhodes will lead the Communi ty Center Board for the coming year with Ann Stager as treasurer. New board members Lewis Lafuse Bill Alexander and Lloyd Manuel join at the October 3 1961 meeting while Howard Windsor remains board chair. Holdover directors include Mrs George McNabb Mrs Ross Tweedy Mrs Mary Joseph James Webb and William Skinner. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month with public attendance invited.

UNICEF Drive in Carthage Raises Fourty Four Fifty

UNICEF drive held by Carthage Church children raised 44.50 for a needy cause. It notes UNICEF aids 55 million children in over 100 countries this year and lists unit costs for vaccines vitamins milk and treatment to combat TB malnutrition and eye disease.

Past Masters Honored by Rush Lodge No 580 F and A M

Rush Lodge 580 F and A M honored its past masters at a Wednesday dinner and meeting at the Community Center basement served by Eastern Star members. Honored were Otto C McCarty Arthur Winfield Earl Addison Morris Henley Howard Winslow Kenneth D Bush Floyd D Rowan Donald P Fancher Eugene R Gardner Roy Hearne Donald Liebrandt Gary Steward and Lee Patton. Kenneth Land is worshipful master for the year. A talk Masonry in Motion by Bayard Baker complemented the program. The Past Masters filled all lodge offices at the close.

Carthage High School cheerleaders Pam Hunt Jane Hunt Cindy Brooks and Marilyn Pitts won second place at the Indiana High School Cheerleaders Conference held at Indiana University Auditorium. About 1600 girls from 200 to 250 Indiana schools participated in five divisions.

Two car crashes claim two and three lives in county

Saturday and Sunday accidents near Lebanon and Carthage left John Allen Ruby injured with a broken ankle and shattered leg while three Henry County youths died at State Road 140 near Carthage. Browning Harris and Snedigar perished after a high speed no passing maneuver.
