Mr and Mrs Bobby Sweet of Knightstown formerly of Carthage welcomed a daughter Tina Marie born Saturday October 27 at Rush Memorial Hospital. Mr and Mrs Danny Owens welcomed a daughter weighing 6 pounds 5.0 ounces born Thursday November 1.
Mr and Mrs Robert Walker returned to their Carthage area home after a two week trip to Florida spending time at the home of Mr and Mrs Leonard Ruby in Ft Lauderdale Florida.
Harold Taylor of Anderson, former school band director, shows improvement at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He is assigned to room 253.
Fort Knox Kentucky Army press notes report private James W. Neal son of Mr and Mrs Ben F Neal of Carthage Indiana completed a ten week radio course at The Armor Center Fort Knox on October 25. Neal joined the Army last June and finished basic training at Fort Knox. The 23 year old graduate of Carthage High School class of 1957 attended Purdue University and previously worked for Perfect Circle Corporation Rushville before enlistment.
The Post Office and State Bank of Carthage will be closed all day Monday November 12 for Veteran's Day. The Carthage Citizen will close in the afternoon for the holiday.
The United Fund Drive for Ripley Township remains active with Mrs. Hugh Weber soliciting east of Carthage assisted by Mrs. Frank Alexander and Mrs. Robert McKain. Township quota stands at 1800 dollars and donors are reminded of the goal.
Mr and Mrs Hoyt Addison and Miss Cathy Heim attended a recital in Hammond Illinois on Sunday given by piano students of Mrs Lois Reames Wolfe. Mr Addison performed a saxophone solo as a guest.
Mr and Mrs Russell Bourquein of Mays announce the birth of their son Jerry Vincent on October 24 at Rush Memorial Hospital. Mrs Bourquein is the former Mary Lou Logan daughter of Mr and Mrs Thurston Logan.
Mr and Mrs Robert Jackson announce the birth of a daughter named Tressa Carol at Rush Memorial Hospital on Saturday November 3. She weighs 7 pounds 11 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Carl Stevens of Carthage and Mr and Mrs Trees Jackson of near Freemont Indiana.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Houchins of Indianapolis announce the birth of a 7 pound 7 ounce son, Phillip Dwayne, born November 2 at St. Francis Hospital. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Shutt of Carthage.
The Band Boosters gathered at the school house Tuesday evening. Minutes of the last meeting were read and the treasurer reported finances. Bills were approved and several items of business discussed.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Weber were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Berninger and family at Delphi. The group attended the Purdue Illinois football game at Lafayette on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Marcine Cook of Guam visited his mother Mrs. Iva Cook over the weekend. Mr. Cook, a Navy Civil Service employee, has spent years in Hawaii and Guam. His wife Carol Webb, from Dayton Ohio, has spent similar time in Guam. Also visiting were Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Cook and daughter Candi from California, and several other Saturday guests including Mr. and Mrs. Henry and family of Cheng Me, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dake and Mrs. Wilson of Indianapolis, and Roy Small.
Carthage High School editors Linda Harrold and Sue Siler discuss the Ca Hi Ana yearbook. Students may buy between now and November 19 for $3.00 from named staff. yearbooks arrive by May 1 with 18 extra pages and more underclassmen photos.
Jack Howard, a high school senior majoring in English and history, has joined the Armed Forces Reserves. He plans to pursue commercial flight training after graduation and enjoys chorus, basketball, reading adventure novels, and working on his car. He will soon leave for Norfolk, Virginia.
A Halloween party was enjoyed by the senior class at Leisure Ranch. The event featured a festive barn dance and no major incidents were reported.

Mrs. Edna L. Windsor 49 a former resident of Carthage died Monday morning at Rush Memorial Hospital Rushville after six months of ill health She was secretary to the ISSC Home superintendent and had worked in a similar post with L A Cortner She was born January 24 1913 in Hammersville Ohio and came to Rush County from Cincinnati in 1943 Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery Knightstown with services conducted by Rev Faris Franz at Hampton Mortuary Carthage.
The Women’s Society of Christian Service met November 1, 1962 at 1 30 p m in the church annex. President Edna Kennedy led 16 members and 3 children, minutes were approved, cheer cards sent to the sick, and a Christmas dinner was announced for next month. Connie Fenner gave the lesson on Self Denial and Prayer with refreshments by Opal Nelson and Ruth Hunt.
Miss Sherry McKain celebrated her birthday with a Friday slumber party at home following the Carthage ballgame. Guests included Billie Henley Diane Whitfield Darlene Barry Wanda Henderson and Patricia Nolen.
The Carthage P T O held a Halloween party for Ripley Township children at the Community Center last Wednesday. Eugene R. Gardner and Albert Terhune chaired the event with judges including Fred Parish A W Winfield and Charles Mosier.
Frances E. Wolfe 85 of 201 East School Street Centerville died Tuesday. Born in Carthage Indiana she had lived here since 1906. Widow of John W. Wolfe she survived by two brothers Jesse Study Centerville Edgar V guby Carthage one sister Mrs Martha Ewing Knightstown and nieces and nephews. Services were held Thursday at 1 30 p.m. at Welfer Funeral Home with Rev Shirley Morgan in charge Burial followed in Earlham Cemetery Richmond.
Defective headlights cited in a Sunday evening two car crash on Carthage Road five miles north of Arlington. Drivers Carl Davis age 18 of Carthage and Orville Leisure age 77 of Rushville. Davis southbound Leisure westbound. Damage estimated at 400 to Leisure and 300 to the other. no injuries. Occurred at 6 30 p m.
Iva Cook hosted a Sunday family dinner at her Carthage residence. Attending were Guam residents Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Cook and family from San Mateo California, Mr. and Mrs. Leon J. Cook and son from Indianapolis, Mr. and Mrs. John Perry from Cincinnati, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bushorn from Milan, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Byers and sons from New Castle, Mr. Francis Bushorn from Madison Wisconsin, and Roy Small. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Kyser visited in the evening.
In Rush County, at The Stager farm near Carthage, 13 year round springs caused soil saturation and erosion. A diversion 1,175 ft long stores 262,560 gallons, 1,150 ft of 6 to 8 inch tile diverts water, 1,200 ft of 10 inch tile outlets, and 127 tons of stone create french drains to move spring water underground to a creek 1200 ft away. Charles Wolfe Jr. of the Soil Conservation Service supervised with ASC help. This first installation of its type targets sustained running water at Spring Hill Farms.
Rush County voters solidly backed Republicans in Tuesday’s general election. Bob McKain won Ripley Township trustee 527 to 263, with multiple advisory board wins across townships. County offices, council seats, and state races also favored Republicans, including Homer Capehart’s statewide bid.
Carthage Raiders topped Laurel 69 to 39 in the opener. Larry Jordan led with 25 points and 18 rebounds in 27 minutes, as Carthage built leads 17-9 31-22 49-30 and used a nine man first unit. Raiderettes also won by two points.
