The Methodist Church will run a Bible School from May 27 for two weeks from 9 to 11 a.m. open to all ages beginning at 3 years. A staff of about eighteen adults assists under general chairman Mrs. Raymond Kennedy.
Frank Hampton of Rush Lodge No. 580 F and A M attended Grand Lodge at the Scottish Rite Temple Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Hampton joined the banquet and floor show in the evening.
The former Leadbetter Pharmacy in Carthage was bought by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Windsor. The store is being redecorated and remodeled and an opening date will be announced soon.
Mrs. Thomas Bush Mrs. Homer Hensler Mrs. Ross Tweedy Mrs. Lloyd Manuel Mrs. Louis Humes and Mrs. Donald Ruby attended the Indiana Garden Club State Convention Tuesday and Wednesday at Purdue University in Lafayette Indiana.
Mr and Mrs Forrest Marshall spent the weekend in Michigan visiting the Tulip Festival in Holland and attending a parade. They also toured the Kellogg factory site in Battle Creek Michigan.
Mrs Mary Gurley returns to Carthage after living eleven months with her daughter and family Mr and Mrs Dwight Mc Cormick and children in Tempe Arizona.
Mrs Loyal Hunt Mrs Albert Ray and Mrs Lloyd Manuel attended the American National Gesneria Convention at the Severin Hotel in Indianapolis. They toured gardens and places in Indianapolis and viewed unusual plants in three city homes.
Mr and Mrs Paul Edwards and son Danny and Mrs Earl Nigh visited over the weekend with Mr and Mrs Clancy Nigh of Allegan Michigan They toured Holland Michigan and the tulip gardens and festival there.
A Summer's Drivers Training program runs at Arlington School starting Monday May 27 at 8 a m with Arlington Carthage and Manilla taking part. Enrollment remains open for all interested students.
Mrs. Robert Walker returned home Saturday from Rush Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Guy Ewing shows improvement at her Carthage home. Mrs. Joseph Graff slowly recovers from heart surgery at Long Hospital in Indiana. Mrs. Paul Clevidence admitted to Rush Memorial Hospital Wednesday. Mrs. Paul Gray home Wednesday after three weeks there. Mrs. Margaret Blessinger entered Rush Memorial Hospital Thursday for X rays and treatment.
James Ellis Jr a Butler University sophomore was elected president of Kappa Kappa Psi the national honorary music fraternity. He also directed Phi Delta Theta at the Spring Sing on May 11 at the Hilton Brown Theater at Butler and plays in the marching band. He is the son of Mr and Mrs James Ellis of Carthage.
Lilburn M. White 90, lifelong Ripley Township resident and birthright Quaker, died at home after an extended illness. Survived by two daughters, a son, two grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral held at his Carthage residence with Rev. Henry Cooper officiating. burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Condo and Son Funeral Home of Wilkinson handled arrangements.
James Whitfield and his sons Mike and David of Carthage joined Troop 23 Rushville for the Scout Spring Camporee at Bear Creek Camp near Connersville. Mike Whitfield passed the board of review and achieved Eagle Scout rank.
A correction notes the name Mae Norris Winfield was mispelled as Whitfield in last week's Alumni Association Meeting story. No other details are provided.

Veterans led by four former winners compete with rookies for the right to race for a $400 000 plus purse amid public viewing restrictions and a busy festival week.

Rush County and its high and grade schools received Continuous Commission ratings from the State Department of Public Instruction after an April 22 to 24 inspection. Four former first class high schools Milroy Carthage Mays and New Salem were downgraded to continuous status. Recommendations include moving seventh and eighth graders into six six systems to boost practical arts teaching. Guidance librarians audio-visual science art and vocal music are being strengthened to maintain commissions amid reorganizational efforts. Citizens are urged to support upcoming administrative changes to improve educational opportunities.

Francis McColley and his daughter from Franklin visited Mr and Mrs Clara Delinger Saturday evening. Mr and Mrs Dale May and Mr and Mrs Luther Jackson visited Mrs Norman Deck of Knightstown at Hancock County Hospital Sunday afternoon.
Rush County voters reject a proposed plan 1052 to 179 with 1231 farmers voting from about 2300 eligible. The tally was announced today at the county ASC office.

Mr and Mrs Gary McClurg suffered cuts and bruises when his 1963 Pontiac veered off Route west of Carthage hitting a culvert near the Hosea Stoner farm. They were treated at Rush Memorial Hospital and released. Front end damage was extensive.
Jimmy Durante the grand old man of show business will appear in person at the 1963 Indiana State Fair August 24 and 25 for four shows. He will be joined by Eddie Jackson Sonny King and Jenny Jackson according to Hal L Royce, fair organizer in the Coliseum. Durante at 70 years old reflects a long career from Coney Island piano to Broadway film radio and television. Perry Morton Downey 74 of Sullivan died Sunday evening after a two year illness in Mary Sherman Hospital Sullivan. Downey a Jackson Township farmer established Rush County’s first Brown Swiss dairy herd and was one of the area’s early farmers. He was born October 29 1888 in New Salem and was twice married first to Ilva Beaver then to Virginia Butler who survives. He leaves a daughter Jean Kiplinger a son Frank Downey a sister and eight grandchildren. Services were held Wednesday at Butcher Funeral Home Knightstown with burial in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Artie Clevidence 54 died at Rush Memorial Hospital after admission Wednesday. Born January 5 1909 in Albany Kentucky she married Paul Clevidence August 28 1926 in Peru Indiana and moved to Carthage in 1981. Survivors include husband, daughter Eugene Wilson and three sisters. Funeral 2 pm Saturday Hampton Mortuary with burial Glen Cove Cemetery Knightstown.
Orville G. Leisure 77 of Carthage R R 2 died at Rush Memorial Hospital after two years of declining health. A farmer and auctioneer, he served two terms as Jackson Township trustee and was a member of the Little Blue River Church of Christ. Survived by his son Jesse and daughter Edith Berninger among six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, with burial at Glen Cove Cemetery Knights Town after services by Ben H. Taylor.
Bob Winters caught a 1 lb 4 oz rock bass in the Indianapolis Star Fishing Contest earning week one honors and leading the year’s division. A prior catch weighed 2 oz more but was smaller in length. State Wildlife Dept notes the record is the largest of its species in Indiana but requires a photo to officialize the record, which was not taken.
