Mr. and Mrs. James Lacy of Spiceland announce the birth of a daughter, Anne Marie, born May 12 at Henry County Hospital. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Davis and was born on her grandmother's birthday.

Local residents hospitalized and recovering in Carthage area

Mrs. Robert Walker was admitted to Rush Memorial Hospital for treatment and observation this week. Mrs. Guy Ewing returned home to Carthage on Monday after a stay at Rush Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Earl McCorkle is improving at her Carthage home.

Special Program at Rush County Historical Society Event

The Rush County Historical Society schedules a 2 p.m. program at the County Museum in Rushville on May 19 with Wilbur Peat of the Herron Museum of Art speaking on Early Indiana Houses. Dr. Peat authored Indiana Houses of The 19th Century, citing several Rush County homes. The society also notes its annual membership drive is now underway.

Spring Lecture Highlights Women Fellowship Service

Mrs. Dale Fiers of Indianapolis spoke on Every Christian Women Fellowship Serving. Mrs. Clyde Ruby of Carthage sang a solo. Carthage attendees included Mesdames Luther Hull Leonard Jackson Thomas Bush Donald Ruby and Forrest Moore. Mrs. Forrest Moore is district utary and board member.

Annual Spring Sing at Butler University Hosts YMCA Event

Mr and Mrs James Ellis Carol and Steve and Mr and Mrs Thom as Bush attended the YMCA YWCA spring sing at Butler University Saturday night. Fourteen organization groups participated with James Ellis directing the Phi Delta Theta group. Dinner followed the event with Ellis Bush family in attendance.

Carthage Soldier Completes Signal School Training

Army Pvt Rue M Henley son of Mr and Mrs Clarence J Henley of Carthage Indiana completed a 15 week radio teletype operation course at the Southeastern Signal School Fort Gordon Georgia in mid April He entered the Army in October 1962 and trained at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri He is a 1962 Carthage High School graduate.

Ball Diamond Renovation Moves Forward at School

Work on the school ball diamond revamp progresses with new light poles installed. Volunteers and donors coordinate with Carthage committee of Indiana to furnish, deliver, and set light poles at no charge. Project completion expected by June 1.

Alumni Celebrate 11th Annual Carthage Alumni Meeting

The Carthage Alumni Association held its eleventh annual gathering at Carthage High School Gym with nearly two hundred alumni and guests. Notable honorees included the classes of 1913 1938 and 1963, plus retiring teachers and oldest alumnae from 1900. The program featured remarks by President William Alexander musical performances by Lynn Kennedy and Van Overman and readings from Norma McKain as correspondence was shared.

Carthage Teen Clinches East Central Table Tennis Title

Kit Porter a Carthage High sophomore medaled in the East Central Conference tourney by sweeping three straight matches to win the championship. He defeated Morton Memorial in two straight games, then Spice Land in two, and Morristown in two to clinch the title in a best of three format. Ronald Baker coached Carthage as teams Milroy Liberty Morristown Spiceland and Carthage competed. Porter is the son of Mr and Mrs Joseph E Porter.

Correction on oldest living Carthage High School graduate

The Alumni Association record error listed Ora Herkless of Chattanooga as oldest graduate, but Miss Sarah Hill of New Castle, Class of 1888, is actually the oldest living graduate. Editors apologize, noting Miss Hill is in her mid nineties and would welcome messages from Carthage friends.

Lions Club Dinner Votes New Fireman Cup Plan

The Lions Club regular dinner on Tuesday May 14 with fourteen members saw a vote to award a new Fireman Cup annually, kept permanently by the recipient. They will sponsor a mid June fish fry for the Summer School program, with Larry Jordan and Guy Ewing on the committee. James Ellis presented a 1962 Indianapolis Speedway race film.

Carthage High School 16 Seniors Graduate in 1963

Sixteen Carthage High School seniors closed their 1963 year with baccalaureate and commencement at the Community Center. Kathleen Marie Geise won the RN Scholarship of 200 dollars and plans to enter Ball Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Muncie September 3. Other awardees included Linda Kay Harrold as valedictorian and Sue Ann Siler as salutatorian along with citizenship medals and the Women's Literary Circle Scholarship Cup.
