The annual Youth Rally in Fairmount Indiana features speaker Jacob DeShazer who will recount his life at the 7 30 p m evening service. Other services are at 10 00 a m and 2 00 p m with a Singspiration led by the Knapps in the afternoon.
Gilbert McMannus 54 of Indianapolis and son of Fred McManus suffered a heart attack at Fred McManus's Carthage home Wednesday night. He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital Indianapolis in serious condition.
Gene Gardner of Ripley township led the Rush County Dairy Herd Improvement Association in April with 11 cows producing an average 49.1 pounds of butterfat and 1336 pounds of milk per cow. The runner up was Leo Hoeing and Son of Rushville township with 46.3 pounds of butterfat and 1244 pounds of milk per cow.
Judith Ann McClarnon daughter of Mrs Harriet McClarnon of Charlottesville received a State Fee Remission Scholarship for one year from Indiana University which she has accepted The Charlottesville High School graduate earned the award through high scores on the winter State Scholarship examinations and remains eligible for competitive scholarships during her college career.
The Rush County Historical Society met at the Rushville museum with about 50 attendees. A plaque in memory of former president Mary Coleman Marsters was unveiled, and Mrs. Roy Waggoner delivered a biography of Marsters' influential career.
Carthage Raiders defeated Spiceland 22 to 0 as Magee and Little pitched. Gatewood led Carthage with 4 hits in 5, including a double, while Middletown and Carthage prepared for the East Central conference final at Middletown if weather allows.
The Carthage Junior Class and about thirty guests enjoyed a weiner roast Friday evening at Mr and Mrs Richard Harrold home. The group then attended a drive in movie later that night.
The Carthage American Legion met at Robert McKain's home and elected officers for 1957 58. Commanded by Dr. George B. McNabb, with James Webb as Vice Commander, James Ellis as Finance Officer, Robert McKain as Sgt at Arms, and Ralph Henderson as Adjutant. Twenty five members paid up as membership drive begins.
School voters chose John Hunt as president Kirby Overman as vice president and Lois Hawkins as secretary treasurer for the 1957 58 student council term.
William H. Dixon cashier of the Carthage State Bank attended the Indiana Bankers Association Convention held at the French Lick Sheraton Hotel on Wednesday and Thursday of last week in French Lick.
Mrs Freeman Blessinger, a business visitor and shopper, was seen in New Castle on Monday. Her activities focused on local commerce and retail exploration during the daytime visit.
On Class Day last week Carthage High School awarded honors across music groups and years. Notable recipients include Gary Clayton Jim Ellis Pam Hunt Randy McClurg Cathy Ruby David Ruby Sharon Todd Shirley Smith along with multiple awards for band chorus and service.
Unified Daily Bible School runs June 3 to 14 at the Christian Church from 8 45 to 11 15 a m with theme Pioneer With Christ and western atmosphere. Participants include Christian Church Wesleyan Methodist and Nazarene with Supt Mrs Royce Joseph treasurer Mrs Luther Hull chorister Mrs Hugh Trowbridge pianist James Ellis and a roster of teachers across age groups.
Miss Alberta Kay Loveall daughter of Mr and Mrs William Loveall of Carthage and Gale Douglas Carter son of Mrs Helen Neice of Greenfield were married at Carthage Wesleyan Methodist Church by Rev Rex Krieg. The couple will reside in Greenfield at Roberts Trailer Court.

J Spencer Lloyd was named manager of the Fairway Motor Hotel in McAllen Texas succeeding R Earle Liverman Lloyd comes from Harris Kerr Forster Co Houston and has a background in foods catering and hotel operations The Fairway plans a new wing to boost capacity by one third to handle Rio Grande Valley traffic The hotel near McAllen International Airport serves private flyers and motorists and will host the Women’s International Air Races in June
Representatives from 545 Indiana lodges along with visitors from 12 states and Ontario will attend the Grand Lodge F. and A.M. of Indiana, opening Tuesday in Indianapolis. The event expects 700 delegates as Grand Master Steven L. Miller presides and reports on the new 2 million dollar Indiana Masonic Home hospital in Franklin nearing full 200 bed operation by winter.
