Neighbors Aid Myrtle Alsman Plant 50 Acres in Soybeans
Sixteen neighbors from Carthage R. R. helped Miss Myrtle Alsman by preparing 50 acres for planting after her brother James died. They arrived with 14 tractors and finished the task in one day, then planned to plant the rest in soybeans. A noon luncheon was provided by local women. The Carthage Alumni Association held its fifth annual banquet on Saturday night with more than 200 alumni guests and the 1957 graduating class in attendance. Notables included 1896 and 1900 era alumni, the 1907 class celebrating fifty years, and Temple City California delegate Mrs Vilda Clevidence Myers. The High School Chorus provided music and Rev Rex B Krieg delivered the scripture lesson. Rev Robert Shockney of the Friends church gave the sermon titled Establishing Our Standards and Rev Louis E Barrett of Walnut Ridge church pronounced benediction.

Rush County Fair Board Plans 60 by 100 Foot Industrial Tent
The Rush County Fair Board approved a concrete slab for exhibitors in the Industrial Tent, to be 60 by 100 feet with 36 to 40 spaces. They reviewed a ramp project near the scales for unloading tractors and livestock and authorized cement blocks for pulling contests. A new pony class Best decorated vehicle will be added, replacing Pony Stallion. The fair runs July 29 to August 3.
