Rush Lodge Attends Indiana Grand Lodge Meeting

Robert McKain Worshipful Master of Rush Lodge 580 Carthage attended the 148th annual Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Indiana held May 18 and 19 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Indianapolis. Don A. Burton of Muncie was installed Grand Master Wednesday. Rush Lodge plans an E A Degree at 8:00 p.m. Saturday May 22.

Mary Louise Neal Born to James and Mary Neal of Carthage

Mrs. James Neal and Mr. James Neal of Carthage announce the birth of a daughter Mary Louise weighing 7 pounds 4 ounces at Rush Memorial Hospital on Monday May 17. Grandparents are Evelyn Neal of Carthage and Clarence Batson and his wife of New Castle.

Final rites held for Heber C. Herkless in Knightstown

Final rites were held Tuesday afternoon at Knightstown for Heber C. Herkless, 74, retired superintendent of the Knightstown Water and Light Company, who died Saturday in Henry County Hospital at New Castle. Surviving is a brother, Earl Herkless of Carthage.

Knights Town BPW Dinner Sees Installations and Guests

The Business and Professional Women's organization of Knights Town held its regular dinner Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the White Cottage in Connersville with 21 members present. New Castle man named superintendent of South Henry School Corp

New Castle Indiana Charles L Morris former Carthage coach and principal has been named superintendent of the South Henry School Corporation and will assume duties in July. Morris native of Hancock County now serves as superintendent of the Switzerland County School Corporation at Vevay He formerly coached at Carthage in 1937 and taught in Rush County from 1940 to 1942 He was Carthage principal in 1957.

Mrs. Sarah Colvin of Greenfield, sister of Mrs. Logan Nelson of Carthage, is convalescing at Hancock County Hospital after a fall at her home two weeks ago. She suffered a broken right arm and broken right hip.

The 84th Annual Commencement Exercises for Carthage High School celebrated 37 graduates. Speaker Ben Ervin urged a life guided by a personal philosophy and the class received citizenship medals and academic awards. Arlene Ruby earned multiple honors and a $200 RN Nursing scholarship. Michael Lafuse will attend Purdue.

Mrs Loyal Hunt of Carthage served as Show Chairman at the American Gesneria Convention in Indianapolis. She entered five plants earning five ribbons and submitted three arrangements winning three ribbons and two $5 awards including best arrangement and one depicting the show theme Ramble Here. Four Stores Burglars Hit Carthage Woth $400+

Thieves broke into Windsor Drug Store Rubus Corner Market Carthage Hardware and Carthage Radio and Appliance Shop in a Wednesday night haul. About $400 in cash plus merchandise and hunting licenses were taken, with a safe damaged at the hardware and no money found at the radio shop. The break ins were spotted around 5 45 am by Miss Ester Magee as she opened her Main Street restaurant. Town Marshal Hugh Trowbridge and State Trooper Walter Love investigated.

VFW District Meeting Highlights And Writing Contest

The VFW and Auxiliary District meeting took place in Rushville with a Saturday dinner at the Legion Hall where the Writing Contest prizes were awarded. Miss Arlene Ruby of Carthage, sponsored by Blue River Auxiliary 8257 of Knightstown, placed second in the 300 word contest titled In Education Rests The Future of America, earning a $10 prize. Mrs. Rachel King of Carthage,Knightstown Chapter secretary, attended the district gathering.
