Brotherhood-Sisterhood Meeting and House Fire Incident
The Carthage Brotherhood and Sisterhood will meet Monday May 17 at 7 30 p m at the Community Center. An electric hot water heater exploded Sunday evening at the trailer home of Mr and Mrs Myron Trowbridge and children causing kitchen damage. Neighbors heard the explosion and found the Trowbridges returning shortly after. Insurance covered the damage.

Hartleys Prepare to Retire After 23 Year Teaching Career
Mrs. Erma Hartley a Carthage first grade teacher will retire at the end of this school year after 23 years in the profession. A Huntington County native she started teaching at 19 in Jefferson District No. 6. She graduated Warren High School in 1921 and attended Defiance College and Ball State. Mr Hartley a Nazarene preacher now teaches sixth grade at Spiceland. The couple resides at 7 East Second Street Carthage.

General Telephone remitted 10 813 dollars to the Rush County Treasurer for the semi annual property tax installment. Bluebird Restaurant Burned In Morristown Fire
The Bluebird restaurant on Morristown main street was destroyed by a Sunday night kitchen fire. Owner Elmer Carlton estimated damage at 75000 to 100000 with seven community fire crews keeping the blaze under control after about three hours. No injuries reported as Carlton’s son Gene and his wife escaped from an apartment above the restaurant.

Muncie Ind Lou Ella Magee a Carthage senior at Ball State University has been named copy editor of the 1966 Orient and honored for outstanding work on the 1965 Orient.
