Kimberly Tweedy, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jack Tweedy of Carthage, placed 20th in the State Spelling Bee in Indianapolis. She spelled euphonious, a word she had not heard before, and at ten was the youngest contestant, after winning Rush County junior division to advance. Karlis Rusa, 13, Latvian born in a displaced persons camp in Germany, won the event and now attends an elementary school in Iowa City.

General Telephone remits funds for Indiana property taxes
General Telephone has remitted 10976 dollars to the Rush County Treasurer for its semi annual installment of 1963 property taxes. B D Drennan division manager said the total tax for General Telephone of Indiana in 1963 will be 2347200 dollars, about 5.92 dollars per telephone served. Forty four counties in the state received payments as the company operates in 325 communities serving over one million Hoosiers.
