Fatal crash claims Shelby county farmer near Carthage
Mr. Melvin Havens, a prominent Shelby County farmer, was killed instantly Sunday evening when his car collided head-on with a car driven by Ben Bailey of New Castle, north of Carthage. Mrs. Havens and three others were injured. Bailey and his wife were also hurt. Coroner R. O. Kennedy investigates the fatal crash as authorities report Havens died from a crushed chest.
