Mr and Mrs Joseph Graff announce the approaching marriage of their daughter Marlene to J S Miller son of Mr and Mrs James T Miller of Carthage The ceremony will be held at 7 30 oclock Saturday evening May 28 at East St Christian Church Carthage.
Dr. Hubert M. Allen of Richmond Indiana visited A B Thompson on Sunday. The two longtime friends once led an orchestra that performed at commencements and local social events in their home community.
Pvt. William Steinwach, son of Mr and Mrs William Steinwach of RR 1 Carthage, promoted to Pfc. His new address is Pfc. William Steinwach US 55470959 555th Ord Co DAS Ft Meade Md.
Funeral services for Raymond Manche were conducted at Thompson Funeral Home at 2 p m Saturday with Rev Dean McCoy of Fletcher Methodist Church officiating. Music featured instrumental numbers with no singing. Casket bearers were relatives and burial in Glen Cove cemetery Knightstown followed.
Mrs Alma Foust Miss Jenny Foust and Mr and Mrs Marvin Foust move into the former Grace Ray property on South East Street. Mr Thompson and family relocate to Carthage Apartments on North East Street. The two families had lived at the James Miller property on Walnut Street recently sold to Ersel Rhodes.

A son was born to Mr and Mrs Clarence Dulake of Carthage Route 2 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie on Saturday. He was named Karl Eugene.
Returned home from military service in Germany, Gene Richmond was discharged Tuesday afternoon and is living with Mrs. Richmond in their Knightstown apartment.
The Past County Home Economics President Club held its May meeting near Rushville with Mrs. Forrest Moore of Carthage elected as vice president. The group plans another gathering with Mrs. Cliff Winship in Rushville on the last Monday of September.
Mrs. Carrie Bramel fell at Carthage School last Friday injuring her left hand and fingers after glass broke. She was carrying a bottle of bleach when the accident occurred.
Mrs. Julia White and her sister Mrs. Bertha Holt and Mrs. Carrie Warner of Topeka Kansas visited Mr. and Mrs. Franklin White Wednesday evening. Mrs. Warner headed to New York City to see her son before deployment overseas, while Mrs. White planned to visit her daughter in Mount Vernon New York.
A near full Community Center hosted the Frigidaire Cooking School last Thursday night sponsored by Carthage Radio and Appliance Shop. Demonstrator Mrs Jewel Ganzer led with help from Public Service Co representative Mrs Jane Bigger. Entertainment featured the Cupp Egos and Two Hits and a Miss. Proceeds benefit the Fidelity Class of Fletcher Methodist Church.
Wallace Cook of Indianapolis spent Mother’s Day with his mother, Mrs. Iva Cook, sharing the holiday at home.
The Carthage Lions Club and P T A hosted events for the Class of 1955 and the 1954 55 Blue Raiders basketball team at the Community Center. Attendees noted high attendance, announced perfect attendance awards, and honored seniors with a dance and program featuring Pink Spots from Morristown.
The Morton Memorial staged the 1955 Revue of Melody and Rhythm in the high school gym to a large audience. Carthage attendees included many local residents such as the Jessups Beber Beher Gurley Gibson Mosier and Truitt families. Founders Day at Indiana University drew Mrs. Ralph Truitt Mrs. Frank Alexander and other guests from Knightstown Cheviot Ohio with Sue Ann Truitt and David Magee named honor students.
Sunday afternoon visitors included Mr. and Mrs. Charles Whitfield and son Joe to Mrs. Lydia Moore in Springersville. A Mother's Day dinner at Blue Bird Cafe Morristown honored the Moore family. Guests also came from Tempe Rushville Carthage Indianapolis Westland Charlottesville and other locales to visit relatives and share celebrations.
Miriam Boomershine of Morristown will wed Jean Paul Bourque of Quebec at St. Joseph’s Church Shelbyville on May 29 at 11 45 a m. Miriam is a Morristown High School 1953 and Indiana Business College graduate. Bourque is a U S Army Master Sergeant stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison. They will live in Cumberland Indiana.
The Morristown High School Class of 1955 held a baccalaureate service in the school gym Sunday night at 8 30. Thirty-one graduates in caps and gowns marched to Marche Aux Flambeaux as Rev. Robert Reeves offered the invocation and the 44 voice choir sang With the Voice of Singing and The Holy City under Miss Elizabeth Good's direction.
Mrs Gertrude Jessup sustained a foot injury last week after accidentally cutting it with a power mower. The incident was reported in local notices and she is receiving treatment.
Mrs. Elmina Parish spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Russ Davis in New Castle for Mother's Day. The Davis couple and Parish attended Sheridan baccalaureate services with 51 graduates. Various relatives from Morristown Rushville Martinsville Charlottesville Fort Wayne attended the celebrations and visits across several households.
Wayman C. Herkless, 49, native of Rush County, died of a heart attack Friday at his Indianapolis home. A police sergeant in the internal security division since 1936, he served in the Navy in World War II. Survived by his widow Virginia and father Charles Herkless of Knightstown. his mother had died a year earlier. Funeral Monday at Butcher Funeral Home Knightstown with burial in Glen Cove cemetery.
Real estate deeds filed in Rush County record April transactions totaling about 543000, the largest monthly sum in years. Farm properties accounted for about 358000, Rushville properties 158000, and small town real estate 27000, with three farms totaling 536 acres selling for 178050.

Johnson of Washington D C a Pentagon stenographer and Pfc William Steinwach son of Mr and Mrs William Steinwach of Carthage R 1 Carthage Read ing PA Miss Johnson home is Read ing PA They plan to marry after his discharge in February 1956 and return to Indiana.
A. B. Thompson, Carthage funeral director, will be honored at the Indiana Funeral Directors Association gathering May 18 to 20 at the Manufacturers building State Fairgrounds. He will receive a certificate for 50 plus years membership and marks 53 years since his Indiana state board examination. Frank W. Moore of Rushville presides as president and convention chairman. The banquet installation floor show and dance occur May 19 at Brodeys Village Inn.
Mr and Mrs James Pope and their family who had lived in Spiceland for several months have moved back to their residence in the home previously occupied by the Raymond Manche family on RR 1.

A 14 month old Shelly Sue Pescara of Jacksonville Fla was killed instantly in a three car collision on U S 52 two miles west of Arlington at 825 am Monday. The infant suffered a broken neck and fractured skull when thrown from her parents car. Injured were Nichlas Pescara 34 Rosalie Pescara 39 and Katherine Brown 45 all from Jacksonville. Mrs Pescara was driving and all were hospitalized at Rush Memorial Hospital.
The town launches the first phase of a new traffic code with about 60 new STOP signs at 30 intersections. Marshal Hugh Trowbridge urges drivers to observe the signs and comply with warnings as a speed limit will be enforced on main roads and more signs go up.
Mr and Mrs John Stevens and family sold their property on South Market Street to Louis Zimmerman and family. The Stevens have moved to the Mrs Louie Oldham farm in the country.
The Camera Club will meet Wednesday night May 18 at the Community Center. The Woman's Christian Temperance Union plans a white ribbon service Tuesday afternoon May 17 at Mrs Edna Mathley's home with the lesson What Every Mother Should Know About Alcohol led by Mrs Elsa Henley.
Closing activities begin Friday with the Junior-Senior Reception and prom at the Community Center. Saturday night the class attends a reception hosted by the Alumni Association at the high school gym. Sunday at 7 30 p m DST the Baccalaureate service is at East Street Christian Church with the chorus and Rev Basil Stultz delivering the sermon.
Monday night May 16 at 8 00 p m the Carthage High School commencement will be held at the Community Center. Fourteen graduates will receive diplomas including Robert Willis Campbell Rex Eugene Edwards Jennie Lee Faust Marilyn Jo Gray John Russell Hinshaw Janet Marilyn Hunt Janet Carol McCorkle Jaquelin Sue Parish Nancy Lou Marsh Eldon Leon Plank Nerva Jo Pope Keith Allen Ray Patricia Mae Todd and Janice Louise Wil. Music by the high school band, awards and medals, and an address “Batters Up” by Phil N Eskew will close the program.
Harold Miller 17 son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Miller Rushville Township won with 83 points. Dudley Leisure and Larry Gordon followed with 75 and 63 points as judges and officials from Hancock and Rush counties oversaw the 18 acre field event on Ft Wayne Road near Third Street. Implement dealers Fraley Implement Farm Bureau Cherry Ford contributed gear and Lions Club members organized the event.
Mr and Mrs Cecil Pike were with their daughter Mary Lou Pike at Purdue University in a college event setting.
