Roy Turner is back home last Thursday after two weeks at Community Hospital for observations and treatment. Russell Reddick stays at his home on R. R. 2 unchanged. Nelson Cook's condition remains about the same.
A Junior Band Concert is planned in the school gym Friday May 12 at 1 30 PM. Grades 1 through 6 will attend and parents are invited.
Jim Ellis and Larry Marsh attend a car automatic transmission course in Indianapolis three nights a week for several weeks.
Real estate transfers in Rush County totaled 218000 in April, well behind March's 349000. For 1960, April transfers reached 417000. Records show 94000 from farm property, 68000 from Rushville city deals, and 56000 from suburban and small town real estate.
A boy was born Saturday at Rush Memorial Hospital Rushville to Mr and Mrs Walby McClurg R R 1 Morristown.
Judge William F. Marshall reappointed Carl Ging Democrat of near Falmouth and Clifford M. Stevens Republican of Rushville to the Rush County Board of Review. Also serving are county auditor Arthur Malson assessor Paul Glisson and treasurer Virgil Grinstead. The board will convene June 5 to review county assessments.
Robert Lee Howard, 42, of Carthage pleaded guilty at a Sunday arraignment in Justice of Peace Robert Hinshaw's court. He was fined $10 plus costs after being found sleeping on a blacktop road two miles northwest of Carthage by state troopers at 10 30 p m Saturday and held in Rushville jail until the arraignment.
A business meeting of the Community Betterment Association will be held this Saturday May 18 at 1 30 p m at the Community Center.
The regular meeting of the Brotherhood and Sisterhood is set for next Monday at 7 30 p m in the Community Center. Members are urged to attend as plans for upcoming activities will be discussed.
Pfc. Dudley Leisure of the U S Marines is home on a 30 day leave visiting his parents Mr and Mrs Howard Leisure and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Tives Fitch of R. R. 1 Rushville welcome a 7 lb 8% oz daughter born Thursday May 4 named Eileen Gae. Grandparents are Foster Wilson and Uni Fitch of Carthage and Mrs. Fitch.
A Carthage pickup bowling team led by Ray McCloskey Hugh Trowbridge Myron Trowbridge Clair Wrightsman and Cary Wyatt defeated a visiting Park Bowling lanes crew from Connersville last Sunday night. Carthage won 2796 to 2743 after giving the visitors a 67 pin head start.
Thieves entered five Morristown business firms early this week under cover of thunder. They broke doors and windows, stealing nearly $1,000 in cash. Newhouse Hardware suffered a $383 cash loss after cracking its safe. Morristown Drugstore took $362, two cash registers $55.75, Home Appliance $115, Schackel Supermarket $38, and McWilliams Farm Implement Store $10 after an unlocked safe. Robert Wortman, owner of Home Appliance, found the break at 4 am while checking for flood waters.
The Carthage High School Alumni Association announces its annual meeting set for Saturday evening May 20 1961 in the high school gymnasium. A 6 30 p m smorgasbord is planned with business and program at 7 30 p m. Special recognition will honor the classes of 1961 1936 and 1911. The event features a school produced program including a one act melodrama The City Slicker And Our Nell by Speech II. Attendance is hoped from local alumni and those from across Indiana and the United States.
Five Rush County residents were honored for scholastic achievement at Indiana University's Founders Day Convocation. The event marked IU's 141st anniversary with remarks by President Herman B. Wells and Dean Maynard K. Hine. Local honorees include Phillip W. Brown, Ann Jackman, Thelma W. Myers, Maria L. Renegar, and Linda J. Walker.
Members met Monday night for their Ladies night. The president called the meeting to order after a meal. Due to school conflicts the next meeting shifts to May 15. General Telephone reps showed a film and described the direct-dialing system debuting in June.

Hurtubise and three front row veterans headline the golden anniversary 500 Mile Race time trials at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Top six qualifiers across four days will earn cash awards with $1,000 bonus for the fastest overall. Gates open early Saturday with practice and a ceremonial events program leading to 11 a.m. time trials.

Dr. Richard J. Delorit says Jerry Montgomery of Carthage Indiana has been accepted for the National Science Foundation Summer Institute at Wisconsin State College River Falls. The program funds 60 teachers from 16 states, runs June 12 to August 5 in two sessions, and pays $75 weekly plus dependents’ allowances plus travel. Montgomery teaches at Ripley Township High School and holds a Purdue B.S. degree.
Mr and Mrs David Magee and family of Chattanooga Tennessee spent the weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs Ralph Truitt and other relatives.

Thomas Craig Pearson of Carthage Indiana made an initial purchase of a registered Ayrshire heifer from Garland Rasdall and Family of Trafalgar Indiana. Ayrshire Breeders Association secretary David Gibson Jr. in Brandon Vermont noted the transaction and said registry records have been kept in Brandon since 1875. The Ayrshire breed remains popular due to its ability to produce abundant milk economically.
The Rush Co Historical Society holds a Civil War Centennial spring program Sunday May 14 at 2:30 PM at the Rushville Museum. About sixteen veterans of the reactivated 19th Indiana Volunteer Infantry and 18th Battery Light Artillery will participate wearing 1861 65 uniforms and firing muskets under Sgt Maj Edwin Welforth and Art Sgt Don Stanfield. A parade may follow if weather permits, with a brief prelude at the museum by Ray Hendricks.

Raymond McDaniel 58 of Carthage, longtime Container Corp plant manager at Noblesville, died of a heart attack after bowling Monday night. Born August 1 1902 in Carthage, he lived there most his life, worked earlier as a telegrapher, and served in Rush Lodge 580 and Scottish Rite Indianapolis. Survived by widow Edna Miller, his father Alvaro, brother Rue, sister Mrs Everett Price, funeral Thursday at Hampton Mortuary with Masonic rites at Glen Cove Cemetery Knightstown.
A pony owned by Harold Jones was killed when it wandered onto Ind 44 about 1.5 miles west of Rushville at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The pony was struck by a westbound car driven by 71 year old Laverne Lower of R R 5. Lower was uninjured. The animal value was set at $300 and front end damage to the car at $175.

Details show Sunday, weekday, and Saturday averages rising at State Road 67 west of State Road 3 near Muncie and other sites including State Road 1 south of Farmland, U.S. 40 near Greenfield, and the Carthage to Mays county road in Rush County with daily and weekend increases.
