Band Boosters Plan Alumni Smorgasbord Dinner
Carthage Band Boosters met at the school with Mrs. Al Stapp presiding and Mrs. Ralph McClurg recording. A food committee of Mrs. Noah Brooks Mrs. Kenneth Bush and Mrs. Lloyd Manuel was named to oversee the Alumni Smorgasbord dinner. The group also voted to sponsor the Birthday Calendar again. Mrs. Rachel King attended Indiana Grand Chapter Eastern Star 87th Annual Session at Murat Temple Indianapolis with Mrs. Donald Liebrandt and Mrs. Russell Parish at Carthage Chapter OBS 574 attenders.

Local Soldier Attends Fort Knox Supply Course
Army Pvt. Raymond D. Robertson 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy T. Robertson Sr., Carthage Indiana, is in an eight week general supply course at The Armor School Fort Knox Kentucky. The course ends June 1. He previously served at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri and is a Carthage High School alumnus.

Arling ton High Student Wins Gold in State Contests
Gerry Lee Chrisman of Arlington High School won a gold medal in the finals of the 47th annual state high school contests in Latin mathematics Spanish and English held Saturday April 29 at Indiana University. Sixty regional winners competed in the finals across 36 Indiana cities with 1 200 finalists. Forty one students won first places earning gold medals and 90 placed second earning silver medals while 172 won bronze for third place.

Pheasant Crash Shatters Windshield Near Fowler
While driving home to Chicago after a visit with his mother Donald Cook’s car collided with a cock pheasant near Fowler Indiana. The bird shattered the windshield and fragments entered the vehicle as Cook kept control of the car during the melee.

Carmony Named School Head by unanimous vote
Principal Gerald C. Carmony of Manilla High School was elected Rush County schools superintendent by the county Board of Education in the Courthouse. He will succeed Charles M. DeMunbrun on August 16 after 24 years leading the county system. Carmony, with 22 years in education, has led Manilla for seven years and holds degrees from Indiana Central and Butler University. He served in World War II and Korea.

Two Arrests After Carthage Street Crash Injures Two
Two men were injured when a car driven by Lewis Gray struck two trees on East Street Carthage. Hinshaw was treated for facial lacerations and a bruised knee and released. Gray suffered a fractured ankle and facial cuts and was hospitalized. Hinshaw faced charges of public intoxication and allowing an unlicensed driver. Gray faced charges of DWI, suspended license, and reckless driving. Investigating officers were Town Marshal Hugh Trowbridge and Trooper James Kleiman.
