Nineteen books were added to the Henry Hen ley Public Library from Cyrus Coffin of San Bernardino California. Coffin, a former Carthage resident, has been a generous donor to the library.
The Rush County Historical Society holds its semi annual meeting at the Museum at 7th and Perkins Rushville at 2 p m on Sunday May 138. A program features a talk on Benjamin Rush by Bob Waggener of The Sampler noted furniture maker.
The Spring Quarterly Meeting of the Friends Meetings of Walnut Ridge Quarterly will be held at Westland Friends Church on Saturday May 12 with a Ministry and Council Session at 10 00 a m Worship Service at 11 00 a m speaker Logan Smith and an afternoon Business Meeting A basket dinner is planned for noon The Young Friends meet Sunday afternoon May 20 at Westland
Miss Pamela Hunt daughter of Mr and Mrs Hubert Hunt along with a group from Dixon's Studio of Connersville entertained attendees at the Manilla alumni banquet Saturday night.
Mr and Mrs William Ewing of Knightstown area are parents of a seven pound eight ounce son born early Monday at Rush Memorial Hospital.
Grant Henley returned to Rush Memorial Hospital Wednesday for observation and treatment as officials reported.

Visiting Knightstown High School defeated the home team 4 to 2 on Tuesday afternoon at the high school diamond. The locals were slated to travel to New Palestine for a Thursday afternoon game.
Former Carthage High School graduates will gather in Carthage Saturday afternoon for visits and friendship renewals. The Alumni Association meeting is planned Saturday evening at the gymnasium with 250 to 300 expected attendees.
William E. Alexander, coach at Mays High School, has taken a summer job at the Carthage Post Office during vacation.
A marriage license is issued in Connersville to John M. Stoner son of Mr and Mrs Hosea Stoner R R 1 and Alice Gibbs of Connersville.
Mrs James Terhune suffered a heart attack on Wednesday afternoon and was taken to Rush Memorial hospital Wednesday night for treatment.
III Ercel Bever shows improvement at Rush Memorial Hospital while Earl Nowotne remains ill at home after a week confined to residence.
Mrs. Rachel King attended the V. F. W. encampment joint meeting of the 10th district at Rushville on Saturday and Sunday. Catherine Hahn of Knightstown was elected district president.
Morristown high school track team defeated Carthage 81 to 23 on the Rushville cinder track last Thursday. Jimmie Neal won the 100 yard dash for Morristown, with Jack Smith Sonny Smith Overman Watkins Phil Parish and Gatewoodalso scoring in other events.
Mark Carson son of Mr and Mrs Carl Carson Jr underwent a ton Billectomy last Friday at Rush Memorial Hospital Rushville.
The Carthage P T A held a monthly meeting with a pitch in dinner for the 1956 senior class and sponsor Mrs Martha Clayton. The basketball team, manager, yell leaders and coach were guests with awards presented for best foul shooting. Officers for 1956 57 were installed and 150 attendees viewed festival parade films.
The Kappa Kappa Sigma sorority plans a May 15 meeting with Mrs. Fern Pearson and co hostess Mrs. Arminta Ruby. The Carthage Legion Auxiliary held a regular meeting with nominations and Girls State plans, while members reported on visits, Sunday gatherings, and upcoming alumni events.
A Carthage High School senior class page thanks supporters for twelve years of activities in basketball baseball band and chorus. It lists graduates and their postgraduation plans in Indianapolis Wyandotte Greenfield Rushville and other places while noting a Vocational Guidance Conference at Knightstown. Estella Gillispie died Saturday at her daughter’s home in Fountaintown after a three year illness. Survived by two sons and three daughters the family noted. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 PM at Frazier Funeral Home Morris Town with Rev. Gerald Fleming and Rev. Dean McCoy presiding. Interment followed at Concord.
A large Carthage audience enjoyed a Friday program by the Carthage School chorus and bands under John Medjeski. Performances featured five choirs and two bands with numerous awards and recognitions for students including Gary Clayton Jim Ellis Karen Graff Lois Hawkins Randy McClurg Jane Meade Marilyn Leisure and Suzanne Bramel.
Mrs. Robert S. Moore visits New Castle and Rushville. Anita Moore, John Gordon, Sue Ann Truitt and Kenneth Land travel to Brown County. Rev. and Mrs. Richard Ball of Grand Rapids guest at Maurice Brooks home. Arthur White visits Battle Creek with his son Edward and wife. Sue Ann Truitt sings with Indiana University's Belles on Founders Day. Mrs. Truitt and Mrs. Magee see Rev. E Chapman in Paoli. Cecil Pike attends services and church supper in Wilkinson. Doherty family from Palose Park Illinois guests of Howard Winslow. Roy Miller and daughter Mary Ann visit Shutt family in Henderson and Morristown. Noel E. Callahan promoted to first lieutenant at Fort Riley.
Voters turnout was small with 106 in Precinct 2 and 91 in Precinct 1 as Virgil E Bud Grinstead won the Republican county treasurer race. Fred Bills upset incumbent Vance Waggoner for the Rush Hen ry joint representative seat while Russell Coons led the Democratic senator race. Ralph Harvey topped the Tenth District contest in Rush County and Royce Joseph and James Webb drew unopposed local party slates.
A religious meditation on Jesus forgiveness in John 8 11 urging repentance to receive forgiveness. It stresses choosing between sin and God, the necessity of born again faith, ongoing resistance to sin, and church attendance as evidence of faith. The weekly prayer asks for repentance and renewed fellowship in Christ.
