Change of Employees at State Bank of Carthage

John E. Hoover, assistant cashier at the State Bank of Carthage for two years, resigns to join Rush County National Bank in Rushville. A. W. Winfield, Ripley Township Trustee and former secretary-treasurer of the Ripley Farmers Telephone Co., will replace him. Changes expected around June 1.

Third Grade Visits Post Office in Carthage Tour

The third grade from Carthage Grade School visited the local Post Office Wednesday afternoon led by teacher Miss Mary Lou Alexander. Postmaster Joe E. Porter guided the group through the office and treated them to ice cream bars at Leadbetter Pharmacy afterward.

Hendersons Return From Germany After Year Abroad

Mr and Mrs Robert Henderson returned last Saturday after a year in Germany. Robert will be stationed in Virginia after a 30 day furlough and will receive his discharge in October. Mrs Henderson will stay with her parents and be employed in Indianapolis during his camp stay.

First Graders Take Train Trip from Carthage to Indianapolis

Over forty first graders from two rooms accompanied by teachers Mrs. Juanita Cox and Mrs. Helen Earnest and four parent sponsors traveled by private cars to Richmond to board a Pennsylvania Railroad train to Indianapolis. In Union Station they were met by Elmer Fenner and shuttled to the Municipal Airport for lunch and plane watching before returning to Carthage by four o’clock, after an educational day.

Container Corporation of America expands straw buying at its Noblesville Indiana mill under a parity plus contract program. Farmers can earn at least two dollars a ton more than local prices, with $14 to $16 per ton minimum, depending on delivery timing. Contract buying begins immediately to secure a steady straw supply for paperboard used in corrugated boxes.

Carthage High School has been accepted as a new member in the East Central Conference at a reg meeting last week. The move follows vacancies created by Cambridge City Hagerstown and Brookville leaving. Spiceland is added for 1956 57 with more possible.
