The obituary notes John Tarbet died at eighty years old, a Methodist, respected for honesty, survived by Mary Scott his widow and daughters Mrs Anna Bf and Mrs Nora McFatridge, plus sons James Tarbet of Rushville and Charles Tarbet. He worked twenty years at Twenty Lumber Yard and ten at R. T. Moore Lumber. Funeral at the Methodist church Thursday at 2:00 PM with burial in Carthage cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Jesse Henley learned at midnight that 12 year old Jimmie Ed Ball son of Donald Ball and wife in Richmond Indiana was struck by an automobile at 9 pm and died within two hours. The accident occurred in front of the home as the family sat on the porch. A street car stopped and the boy ran in front of it into an oncoming car. Mr Ball carried him inside unaware the boy was his son. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the home and burial followed at Rushville Indiana at 3 pm. Jesse Henley and family Frank Overman and family attended the funeral.
A Thursday night pitch in party hosted by twelve friends at Mrs. Avery Rawls home celebrated Bobby Chonan despite his absence. Ice cream cake and coffee followed a rhymed verse about his life stages and congratulatory wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dhonau on the birth of Betty and Bob.
Mrs. John Reed is improving and will return home from the Methodist Hospital soon. Fred Sims Sr. and son Dwight, Walter Chonau, and Billy Small attended a ball game in Indianapolis Sunday afternoon. Sharer & Moore advertises Burdals 15 enamel for touch up work on furniture.
A rooming house owned by Mrs. Etta Graff on East Street between Mill and First streets suffered severe fire damage Saturday afternoon. The attic fire, blamed on defective wiring, strained two fire engines unable to fully help due to a gasoline shortage. Residents including Ruben Bunion and family Ed Hewitt Gib Hewitt William Freeman and four children were left homeless, with furniture stored temporarily in the Christian church basement due to lack of rental housing.
The Indian Service gas station on North Main Street was entered Sunday night by thieves. Entry gained via a small window in the south restroom. Nothing stolen except some accounts. cash drawer opened but change left. Motive unclear. Sheriff Ed Compton investigated.
The residence of Joseph Tureck, south of Morristown, burned Saturday afternoon around 1:00. Most contents were destroyed with only a few furniture pieces saved. The blaze started from chimney sparks igniting the roof, resulting in a total loss estimated at 1500 dollars and fully insured.
Scott Buell of Greensburg died at Decatur County Memorial Hospital after an explosion at the Decatur County Cooperative Company bulk oil plant in Greensburg. A large gasoline tank and an oil tank exploded, flames visible for miles. Buell, 43, son of D. C. Buell, husband of Jean Porter, funeral attended by E. D. Lewis.
Mr and Mrs H G Henley spent Saturday in Marion where Mr Henley attended a rural carrier meeting of the fifth district. They were joined by guests Mr and Mrs Clyde Delano of Pierceton and Mr and Mrs Ross Immel of New Paris for the weekend.
Rut E. McDaniel son of Mr. and Mrs. Al McDaniel and Miss Ruth Miller daughter of Mrs. Anna Miller of Knightstown were married at the bride’s home on Sunday afternoon at 4. The ring ceremony was conducted by Rev. Dale Beatty with Mrs. Beatty playing I Love You Truly Rubenstein’s Melody in F and Salut d Amour. The bride wore white crepe with gardenias and a lace handkerchief heirloom. Guests included locals from Portland Knightstown and Indianapolis. The couple will reside in the Ross Tweedy property after a brief wedding trip to Indianapolis.
Regular town meeting notes that all board members are present. The Marshal is instructed to arrest violators who throw or permit ashes, waste water, trash, or refuse in streets or alleys, with fines from three to ten dollars plus costs. Monthly bills are approved and paid.
The program for the Mother Daughter banquet at the Christian church Friday night begins at 6 30 with a banquet followed by performances. Violinists Betty Webb Freida McClain perform as a duet Jewel Maxine Ewing and Martha Jean Copher sing together. A reading by Helen VanScyoc and a play Let A Precious Heritage are listed among acts. Numerous participants include Betty Moore Freida McGeorge Helen McCorkle Maxine Kennedy Edna Souder and others with Mrs Donald Stoten and Mrs Guy Ewing among organizers. Further numbers may be added and a large attendance is anticipated.

Voter turnout low with 763 ballots cast from 1,051 registered. Trustees and supervisors led by J Russell Publow 244 and Jesse Henley 161, with Democratic Fred Sims 117 and Harry Rhodes 43. City and county races list numerous candidates and votes across three precincts, including A. J. Carr for State Representative and Chas A. Frazee for Mayor.
