Train Wreck Near Carthage Kills Three in 1908
A December 28 1908 head on collision between two freight trains near Carthage resulted in three deaths and multiple injuries. Fireman R C Anson engineer C E Fist and another crewman died. others suffered severe or minor injuries as wreckage scattered along the track. Bodies were sent to nearby towns for burial while survivors received treatment at Carthage Hotel and local facilities.

Fire Destroys Barn Owned by Whites Near Log Street
A barn on East Log Street west of the Container Corporation switch burned Tuesday afternoon in an undetermined origin fire. It belonged to Mr and Mrs Charles White of Indianapolis and hay stored by Robert Jackson was destroyed. Firefighters arrived as flames were out of control. the barn and hay were a total loss with insurance coverage noted for the barn structure.
